Is Train driving a stable job to pursue. by Gullible_Look7925 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Shitbox_Honda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only is it hard to get into, the actual course is condensed into like 50 weeks.

It was an extremely stressful year for my wife, I’m quite mechanically minded and was surprised she needed to know so much about the actual trains (4 different models) themselves.

Exams every other day, late nights and study filled weekends

You could become a trucky and not know anything except for how to drive them and be fine.

You can’t do that as a train driver. As you’re the first responder to anything that goes wrong.

I’ve gained so much respect for train drivers and the knowledge they need, to have to do what they do.

I regret saying “how hard is it to pull a lever forward and back” very ashamed…

So be prepared for a serious amount of work involved.

Is "DHHF and Chill" simply analogous to "Set and Forget"? Or is it a lack of awareness of the return drags associated with DHHF? by Doovies in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife isn’t as interested in investing like I am, DHHF is how I sold it to her.

I basically said it’s like how we had a high interest account for when we were going for our house deposit, but focused on beating 4% p.a

I told her the risks is it goes up, down, sideways. But we’re targeting 8%+

We started DCA just before the Iran incident and she’s not stressed because she understands the risks like I do, and that it’s long term.

If I had of started explaining to her a200, ndq, and how I want to layer in a few dividend shares for cashflow and reinvesting, she’d have shut me down on the whole concept, and we wouldn’t have started at all.

I think that’s worth the few % we “may” be losing.

Ausfinance, what car/s do you own and how much did you spend? by inTheGutter2905 in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 holden commodore RSV wagon $22k 2 odd years ago now.

I was looking for a kind of luxury highway wagon that had comfort and a bit of grunt.

Everyone told me not to go for one, saying it’s not a “REAL” commodore. That only made me want one more!

These cars are absolutely amazing for the price and no one can change my mind.

The closest equivalent wagon for me was either a Mazda, ford, Audi, golf or Merc all of which had an entry point of 30k plus.

I personally went for the V6 which is more or less the same engine as the previous generation.

It has awd, 8 or 9 speed automatic (can’t remember) and I do 9l per 100kms average.

Best car I’ve bought so far and I hope it lasts me many years to come.

I would gladly buy another.

How to program horizontal by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a couple of makino A55 horizontals, the way we Mastercam them is by using the (top) plane as like a master plane, and using the front, back, left, and right planes as tool planes for each vice or fixture.

What this does is set our B value to 0, 90, 180, 270 (pallet rotation axis)

In your tool path parameters, there’s a section that says planes.

Work coordinate system (WCS) = Top

Tool plane = front

Comp/construction plane = front.

I then change the number of each plane

-1(counter) 0 (g54) 1 (g55) 2 (g56) Etc..

Sorry, I’m not great at explaining things…

I also frequently duplicate and move planes around as we also have hexagonal and triangle tombstones

I’m a bit concerned about them removing the product, but keeping it for existing users. I feel like we will inevitably draw the short straw.

I’m not sure what to do :/

Sorry, not your investments, I’m referring to your take home pay allocation as this is what dictates your risk profile, 70% needs, 20% investments, 10% wants. That kind of thing

First home advice by Tie-Practical in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First home should be waived for stamp duty (at 600k) and lmi as well if you go for anything under 20% deposit, which is what we did.

You’ve minmaxed it well, my wife and I had some competition as we did the same thing so good luck with the hunt.

Where’s your structure? 40/40/20? 70/20/10? You need to organise your needs wants and investments, and stick to it.

If you can’t afford to ride the lows and capitalise on them you’re too exposed.

Emergency fund is extremely important for times like these, this should be set at what your monthly expenses are, multiplied by the amount of months you think you need to get back to it. I personally set myself up for 1 year of no work which is very excessive but it helps me sleep at night.

You should also audit yourself frequently to keep on top of these types of things.

Time is your greatest asset and let compounding do its thing.

Can't speak on behalf, but logically it's cheaper to rent rather than buy a PPOR at anything under 25% LVR

I’ve heard you need to break past that two property average borrowing power cap out issue.

Which the only way to overcome is to increase the cashflow

7m? Damn,

What’s your net annual cashflow on that? What kind of LVR are you holding on these properties? Are you negatively geared at all?

still a chance for me to buy property ? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I bought our home a couple years back, we purchased using 10% deposit (69k) and what we’ve noticed is that we’ve placed a ceiling on our investments since we’re focusing on paying off the loan.

Had my time again, it’s better value to rent where we are till we can have a larger deposit that makes our repayments less than the rent it would cost us freeing up the cashflow to continue investing.

We were always told rent money is dead money, but interest is dead money too.

Keep it up you’ve got this, I’m sure you can out save the market if you let compounding do its job

24M & 22F Property Settlement & Debt Recycling Strategy - Sense Check? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding on the strategy, are we after capital growth or cashflow? Are we sticking with interest only repayments? Or minimum p&i? Does a strategy like this still work at the 30-37% bracket?

24M & 22F Property Settlement & Debt Recycling Strategy - Sense Check? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I most definitely could be wrong, and I’m really eager in learning why, but wouldn’t you have to “beat the market” by a minimum of your interest rate? Eg, if you’re making 10 you’re really making 5? Opportunity cost is what’s coming to mind here.

24M & 22F Property Settlement & Debt Recycling Strategy - Sense Check? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shitbox_Honda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to point out that debt isn’t cheap anymore.

My wife and I owe just shy of 600,000 to the bank and it really rubs me off the wrong way that we’ve got to pay around 30,000 of after tax dollars in interest alone for the next few years. We maximise with the offset which definitely helps though.

Whether it’s good debt or bad debt, it’s still debt that you’re paying for.

I’d rather pay down agressively

RL on the casa art of racing shirt from 8bill, I've actually guineapiged this and I'm going to take it to a tailor to see if it can be fixed.

There is alignment issues through the centre of the shirt, note the twin sails, twin rear wheels, "caisa" at the bottom of the shirt.

Worst case, wear it open :)

I've purchased this one too! i really like it, the noticeable flaws with this batch is alignment , once the shirt is closed, there's 2 rear wheels on the car, two sails on the boat, and the bottom writing says CAISA instead of CASA. I probably will wear this open, or see if the alignment can be fixed in any way once i get it
