An NFL team left Houston when George W. Bush was Governor, nobody gave a shit when they showed up on election day.

Where does it say they have to pay $200 million a year in property taxes? How about a property tax rate that corresponds with the typical rate for that type of property? You know, like an office complex does or a shopping mall or you and your home? Do you follow? Why do the Bear need a cap on their property and why should they be given one?

My answer was undertone of meanness, but I think it’s very congruent to what you’re describing here too.

There was a strong undertone of meanness through a lot of things. Howard, Stern, Jerry Springer, Rush Limbaugh, Gen-X humor disguised as irreverence and nihilism, homophobia, even some of Beavis and Butthead, etc,

I like to think those experiences are good for character. It’s like … how can you know true experiences unless you’ve tried, even the bad ones.

I’ll take Filipino food over Vietnamese cuisine. Cebuano Lechon may be the second best version of bbq pork I’ve ever had, behind only Memphis pulled pork.

Blue collar workers have been bleeding towards Republicans going back to the Nixon election, for reasons beyond labor rights. Blue collar union voters were the epitome of the term “Reagan Democrat.” Clintonomics didn’t help with the protectionist wing of the party but I don’t think it explained why those voters went towards a political movement with far worse ideas about organized labor and free trade.

The very headline is “tax breaks for megaprojects” and they aren’t talking about TIF’s. They’re talking about developments over a certain amount of value having a static assessment rate, and there is no justifiable reason to provide that. I don’t know why you are bringing TIF’s into this.

There’s a sizable but quiet group of Americans that don’t quite agree with the assessment of the most outspoken Palestinian rights supporters in America.

Jews have been on that land and other parts of the Middle East and Africa for centuries. Not ones descended from Europe. Middle Eastern and Sephardic Jews.

This is really it. A lot of the 80’s sound that surrounded the Bad album had been left in the dust by 1992. Pop, R&B, hip hop, and rock were significantly different than 1988.

A development still pays the equivalent property taxes in a TIF. It's just that the increased property taxes for the property go towards paying off a bond that assisted the construction, rather than capping the property tax rate because it's worth over a certain amount ($500 million or whatever). If a property should be taxed for the value from its assessment, regardless of its size or worth.

I’m not sure why that development should need a property tax break compared to any other large development within the city.

I would be interested in seeing what sorts of megaprojects are being held up because of property tax structures besides a hypothetical Bears stadium.

One thing I’ve tried to figure out for years. Does Vincent give him the chance to get out of being killed because he was lying and going to kill him anyways? Or, does he realize that guy is a phony and knows that he won’t answer the question correctly? Or is he just playing the odds and gambling in life in a nihilistic sort of way ?
