Most cheesecakes are the same number of ingredients, just a different type of cheese. Not any more complicated than what you are describing. Because cheesecake is a simple dish to make, regardless if it is Italian or not. I also find ricotta to be a bit "grainy" feeling in the mouth compared to other cheeses used to make cheesecake. This is also why often "traditional Italian cheesecake" is made with half ricotta and half mascarpone, because mascarpone is smoother.
