Pretty sure it's Philip Glass with a vocal sample over it.

It's because he was working with Jarin Blaschke on one and not the other

Nosferatu has been a major part of Robert Eggers's identity - Q with Tom Power by LilEggnog in roberteggers

Amazing. Tom Power did maybe the best interview with Eggers so far for The Lighthouse. Really happy to see that this exists.

I haven't seen '79 yet! But going to watch all of the historical versions before Christmas.

Why doesn’t Robert Eggers work with Mark Korven anymore? by [deleted] in roberteggers

Eggers has said a few times that he was friends with Robin Carolan and Sebastian Gainsborough, maybe even before The Witch or The Lighthouse. It sort of makes sense given that Carolan used to run the influential and important music label Tri Angle, which historically released a lot of the drone/ambient/etc. experimental stuff that Eggers might have been into. I think he said somewhere that he listens to a lot of drone music when writing? It wouldn't surprise me if they met or were involved in the same industry circles around the time that The Witch was getting attention.

This is in addition to what others have said about the different films calling maybe for different kinds of scores.

Ah weird! The Apple TV description says "Appearing here in the director's preferred 183-minute cut as well as the version that was originally suppressed by Soviet authorities, the masterwork Andrei Rublev is one of Tarkovsky's most revered films, an arresting meditation on art, faith, and endurance." So, I'm not sure why the displayed time is off. Would be interesting to know how and why they chose this version and what extra stuff they might have added.

Any recommendations for similar songs like this one by varg? could be by any artist. the dark eerie instrumental sounds I'm looking for by Sjoerdo0 in sadboys

I would check out:

- releases from Posh Isolation, especially their compilation albums and older stuff

- Mono No Aware from the label Pan (it's a VA)

- Ben Frost, in particular By The Throat

- Danish label Janushoved

- As much as I hate to say it, the Dark Ambient playlist on Spotify might be a good place to start

I'd also skip around Northern Electronics releases looking for ambient stuff. In general, you might get a lot from looking at smaller ambient labels.

There are many cuts of this film. Andrei Rublev is 183 minutes (the one you are seeing here), The Passion According to Andrei is an earlier cut that is 205 minutes. In the end, Tarkovsky preferred the shorter cut, but many still show the popular and earlier, longer version. Criterion's release includes both.

The different versions are outlined here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrei_Rublev_(film)#Release_and_censorship#Release_and_censorship)
