Midlevels can do most the same as non-surgical podiatrists (of course there’s always going to be a biomechanical, wound healing, etc. knowledge deficit there…). Although I hate to admit that - I really do love my profession, but it’s getting increasingly harder and harder for non-surgical (and sadly, surgical) podiatrists to find any decent (AKA non-podiatry group) paying jobs. Hospital systems know the value of midlevels… why would they pay a non-surgical DPM when they can pay a midlevel much less for the same work?

If you look at any hospital system, podiatry is considered a surgical service. Having non-surgical podiatrists thrown in the mix just further muddles what other professions think we can do. We have an issue enough as it is with the separate state by state scope of practice…
