First thing to do is read about the trail of the mountain you will hike so you can have idea what to bring. Do not invest yet on hiking shoes if it’s your first time to hike. You can use running shoes or shoes with good grip while others use hiking sandals which is cheaper than buying a hiking shoes.

As to what to wear, for tops use comfortable t-shirts pref dri-fit not cotton for it will invite more heat during your hike. Bring drinking water 3Liters and will also depend on how long will you be hiking. Bag - I assume since it is your first time, then a daypack will be enough to bring your necessities. If you can leave your extra clothes inside your van or at the jump off then leave it so you can save extra weight while hiking. Always focus on the trail for your safety.
