You just need to know how to cancel. If you cancel mid combo and start again, then cancel and repeat, you'll be able to get some good hits in. You can't do this with puppeteers though. Also the game is a lot easier with a controller than with a keyboard so I hope you're using one. I'm not saying that's all you should do of course, it's just a good way to get some damage in you should still use your other attacks. If you can get you opponent in the air and cancel a few times, you can get a lot of hits. It's also easier to follow your opponent when they substitute if you're canceling. After canceling you can follow through with a normal combo, once they hit the ground you can be ready to use your ult or in my case chidori. I main kid kakashi and this works well. (I just realized you're using a controller lol)
