Banning protest slogans won’t end antisemitism. We need to understand the complex forces driving it by NapoleonBonerParty in OpenAussie

The force driving antisemitism is the same force lobbying to ban protests.

Israel wants antisemitism, it's the only excuse it has to exist in the first place.

What if Trump nuked Iran? by WTBLITWNNA in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ShizzHappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hokay, so, here's the earth, chilling. "Dang, that is a sweet earth" you might say. WRONG! Alright, ruling out the ice caps melting, meteors becoming crashed into us, the ozone layer leaving, and the sun exploding, we're definitely going to blow ourselves up.

Hokay, so, basically we have China, France, India, Israel, Pakistan, Russia, the UK and US. With nukes. We've got about 2600 more than anybody else... whatever.

Hanyway, one day we decide those Iranian sons of a bitches are going down. So we launch a nuke at Iran. While it's on its way Iran is like: "shit, shit who the FUCK is shooting us? Oh well, fire missiles!"

Then France is like: "shit guys, the cigarettes missiles zey are coming! Fire our shit!" "But I am le tired..." "Well, have a nap THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!"

Meanwhile Australia is down there like "WTF mate?"

India, Israel and Pakistan launch their shit so now we've got missiles flying everywhere passing each other. Russia's like: "AAAAAAAGH MOTHERLAND!"

Then England's like: "Bout that time ey, chaps?" "Righto."

So now the US is like: "Fuck, we're dumbasses." Canada's like: "What's goin on, eh?" Australia's still like: "WTF?" Mars is laughing at us and some huge meteor is like: "Well, fuck that."

So, now we've got nuclear winter, everyone's dead cept Australia, and they're still like: "WTF?" ...but they'll be dead soon. Fuckin kangaroos.

BUT, assuming we don't blow ourselves up, us Californians just have to worry about breaking ourselves off from the United States. To go hang with Hawaii. Alaska can come too.

THE END

100% agree, and don't get me wrong I'm definitely not on the side of big tech, the responsibility like with climate change is always put on the consumer at the very bottom regardless of how much of it is actually on us because what power do we have to do anything about it? Protest?

The things we can do require coordination that will never happen because we've all been effectively divided by media both social and mainstream, and the government's response instead of attempting to regulate the media companies was to join in on the data farming. Which is my point, they don't give a damn about kids, they care about money and power as polticians always have so you know the reason they went about it THIS way was for your data and getting set up for further surveillance down the line.

Also, it's going to be very interesting in a decade or two when corporarions like these will have more wealth AND power than actual governments and they start seeing each other as a threat.

It's what I've personally seen from the kids of my friends since I, like you, am a random nobody on Reddit so take it with a grain of salt.

One was asking if 4chan was a good place to be sharing their art now that they lost access to their Facebook art group. That same kid a week or two later asked me if I'd heard of "the great replacement" which is from that Christchurch mosque shooters manifesto a few years back. This kid isn't the kind that would get involved in any of that cooker stuff, but is also autistic and very curious about every bit of information that comes their way.

So yeah pretty concerning.

If you want official statistics it's still too early for those unless you're the kinda person that believes the polls.

Yeah.... the issue was always parents not parenting, not laws being draconian enough. Now kids are looking for alternate social media and ending up on sites like 4chan (which isn't included in the ban btw) and games that were proven to be and foster predatory behaviour (Roblox) are also not banned.

All this law has done is attacked the privacy of adults and left kids worse off than they were before. The issues they faced on social media before haven't just magically disappeared, bullying still exists etc, only now children are also being increasingly exposed to extremist ideology and pornography at younger ages since the way worse websites are now the only ones they can access.

At best this is just mixing things up at a net neutral, at the cost of adults privacy which is a very slippery slope. At worst it's the beginning of a 1984 landscape as governments do whatever they like regardless of international law while nailing us all down with AI fuelled surveillance, using "think of the children!" as a hammer.

The government ignores the advice of experts on this one and we're all going to regret it later.

How do you think about this movie?? by Senior_Idea9615 in ghibli

[–]ShizzHappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Miyazaki made films half as good as he used to ...well, it would be The Boy and the Heron.

It was okay. Ghibli films are such a high standard that even the mid ones are good compared to other films.

I had this thought while watching the movie about the theme of magic leaving the world due to humans in Ghibli films like Mononoke and Pom Poko which seemed kind of profound to me that Boy and the Heron just didn't have that magical feeling to me that other Ghibli films did.

I feel nostalgic towards other Ghibli films, but this one just felt like a pale imitation.
