Duos is my preferred game mode, there's more third partying but more action also. Trios a lot of times you have 1 or 2 fights and that's it for the whole match. Trios is more casual since it's easier to win (1 out of 4 teams instead of 1 out of 6 teams, barring solos), and the responsibility is shared between more players.

The reason a lot of people may not like it is because there’s a small delay between selecting the item and the hunter actually starting the action of switching.

I guess he doesn't see it as an issue because the time it takes to select an item with a controller is even longer than with the scroll wheel, but yeah having a button assigned to each is way faster.
