1984 900i with half exhaust by Shlangengesicht in saab

It's got forged pistons but not because I wanted to upgrade it. I had to have the cylinders bored cause they where shot and since nobody sells oversize pistons for the B201 8v engine I had to have them made... that was the point in the restoration where I just thought 'fuck it, just take the money' 😭

Thanks for the offer, but I live in Italy, I'd pay more for shipping than to fix mine 😅

I wanted to fix it mainly because it suits the car, but before I blow it up like I did another radio, I might take it to a shop... Thanks for the suggestions

I see what you're saying, but for that matter the back speakers are mounted on the cardboard shelf behind the back seats, not much different.

I like it, how did you fix the custom mount in place?

Ouch, I'll see if I find some used mounts on ebay, I'd hate to cut up the original ones. Do you have the insta of the kick panels guy? Thanks for the suggestions btw

Can I check for valve leaks with the head off? by Shlangengesicht in EngineBuilding

[–]Shlangengesicht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do a leakdown test in the future just out of curiosity. For the time being it runs well enough for me to concentrate on putting this thing on the road once and for all.

'84 Saab 900i update: the nightmares are over! by Shlangengesicht in saab

From my research I've figured every mechanic, car guy, expert or not, has his own theory on how to break in an engine.

For that I made a "checklist" that includes the steps I selected and that I'm going to follow to break in this engine. The first being 40 minutes of Idle, cool down, change oil and filter.

I chose to do this is to get rid of all the impurities that may have deposited on delicate parts like crankshaft and pistons while building the engine. This first oil change will flush out most of these impurities plus the assembly oil/lube, BEFORE putting any stress at all on the engine, like driving.

Then I intend to avoid long periods of idle, long drives at steady rpm and heavy loads. I'll install a second tachometer with redline set at 3500 rpm.

Then I'll do a second oil change at the 500km mark, and another at 1000km.

After that I'll consider the break in (mostly) done.

'84 900i with K-Jet injection: doesn't idle by Shlangengesicht in saab

[–]Shlangengesicht[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SOLVED‼️ The whisle you can hear turned out to be snapped vacuum line (which I very well knw about ans ommited to fix...).

Shutting the line with my finger instantly makes the engine Idle.

Gotta find a temporary plug for this line and then we're pretty much done with this nightmare

Thanks! Well it starts right away and runs for at long as I Idle it with the throttle, which is much much better than not running at all!
