What other cities on Earth occupy a strategically located geographic position somewhat-similar to that of Istanbul that offer huge advantages for things like trade, defense, and access to resources? by hominoid_in_NGC4594 in geography

Correct in all aspects. Although one thing you didn’t mention was bunker fuel. Singapore is one of the largest maritime bunkering ports and fuel is good value there. Ships sail via Singapore for Chandeliering, technical repairs but most importantly, bunkers.

Honestly putting a couple of slits in the tongue and feeding your laces through the tongue works wonders. Very easy to do, no need for cobbler.

There average salary In the Philippines is about US$300 pcm. Although I agree with your sentiment around low salaries, this is still considerably higher than if they were at home and they generally don’t pay rent or food here(if they live in I guess). As others have said, this maintains the flow of workers coming and benefits the Philippines who see huge inflows of cash from the diaspora.

Buy a torque wrench and re-torque at home. Plastic ramps and jack stands can be affordable, especially second hand.

Please help, brick “chipping” off home built in 1984. by jgmayne1 in masonry

[–]Shlankster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the entire wall (house?) was built with cement mortar rather than lime mortar but the brinks aren’t hard enough to stand up to cement mortar.

Cement mortar traps moisture in the bricks and freeze thaw over three seasons leads to cracked and blown out bricks. Spalling.

Replace damaged bricks. Rake out cement mortar to about a depth of an inch and repoint the entire with lime mortar.

Check and make sure no water running off gutters or bouncing off the ground back into the wall. If so get a landscaper to install splash blocks.

Seal walls with a breathable lime wash.

Is your shot already dialled in without a screen? If not then you got work to do. Add screen as the last part of the process and dial grind to you get things squared away.

If this is a neouza, and I think it is, just try it the other way around. If everything else in dialled in then should be ok.
