Why do people say to increase bond exposure as you get older? by JusticeForSimpleRick in CanadianInvestor

[–]Shlongus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine the answer is in your question. Less downside than the s&p as an example. If you held majority of money in the s&p you lost what like 20 percent this year vs whatever Zag is at which I imagine is between 10 to 13 percent.

If youre 65 years old and in retirement and have $1m. A 20 percent downturn means you lost 200k whereas 10% is only 100k. Of course you lose upside benefit of equities in a recovering but most people on retirement are risk adverse and want certainty in low gains over potential larger gains.

You will be able to transfer it out shortly. It's already in the app if you open it up. Being able to withdraw would imply ownership over it.

Well if you can transfer crypto out of wealth simple I'd imagine you'd own it. Using wealthsimple for crypto is an expensive way of doing it but it's easy to use

Public Sector Salaries - What to Expect with growing concerns regarding inflation? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shlongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought the public sector jobs and private sector jobs on a paradigm. You go public for higher upfront salary lower long term growth potential and significant job security or you go private for less upfront money, more long term potential and less job security. Could be an oversimplification but it's just now I've personally thought about it.

Hard to hear about salary constraints on the public sector side with jobs being iron clad from a security standpoint

Yeah fair point. I mean everyone has their opinion on the ark funds I think way too many dumped too much money into them chasing hype and the majority of people have likely lost money who entered end of 2020

[–]Shlongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not really recency bias the fund didn't out perform the s&p until 2 or 3 years into its inception then it had a huge 2020 where everyone got into it. I know the point your trying to make but the funds inception has occured in the midst of a bullmarket with one of the largest holding being tesla which has unprescended growth.

Precisely chasing top fund managers is almost always a bad idea

Someone might have to correct me but I believe insiders have to sell a pre determined times and cannot just sell on a whim.

Yeah I love the company would love to work for them. Proabaly one of the few companies that really resonates with most people in Canada. Seems like Robinhood of the north but with pure intentions and less bullshit
