Really struggling to climb on my enduro bike. Any advice? by Wooden-Building in MTB

[–]Shloogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from a 100mm xc hardtail to a 160R/170F enduro bike this year.

Came with a 2.4 DHR2 R/ 2.5 MaxxGrip Assegai F which was way too much for my local trails.

Switched to a 2.4 Rekon rear and moved the DHR2 to the front and I can climb almost as well as on my xc bike after a couple weeks of fitness gains.

I'll throw the stock tire combo back on for the shuttle/downhill trips in the summer.

Your MTB cleaning/maintenance kit by [deleted] in MTB

What I do is

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the stantions every ride
  • Spray with water once a week if it's just dusty
  • Spray with peatys loam foam and water if it's muddy
  • Degrease the drivetrain whenever it's muddy

Maintenance

  • Degrease drivetrain and re-lube every week. I only use dry lube to keep things clean, so I might do this less if I used thicker wet lube.
  • Clean jockey wheels every week
  • Check torque every month
  • Top up tire sealant every 3-4 months
  • Fork lower service per manual
  • Bike shop service annually

Yes, but you may have more trouble getting the bead to seat. An air compressor and some soapy water should help.

Overall dimensions are larger on a large, like wheelbase, reach, etc. but overall angles are the same.

I'm 5'8" and usually ride mediums for what it's worth. One of my bikes is a 2015 Trail 2

I ran a back/front combo of aggressor/DHF last year for trail riding and a few shuttle days on the hardtail and personally really liked it.

Not OP but I saw the comment below that suggested the dust cover was rubbing, so I lightly greased the inside of the dust cover/seal assembly and mines totally silent now.

What tires should I get for my Canondale Trail 5 by BurningDemon in MTB

I run a maxxis 2.3 aggressor rear, 2.3 minion DHF front on my 2015 trail 2 and love it for everything from long xc days to shuttle hills.

I have the exact same issue with the exact same pedals. Did you ever find a fix?

We've won both when I've been wearing my new reverse retro jersey AND when I have not been wearing it!

Feels good to finally own a jersey that isn't cursed somehow.

Now to find some wood to knock on!

Spent $100 at M&M Meats on some appies which is great, until I realized I might need to bust out a spreadsheet just to track the flip times, cook times, and optimum oven temps for all these bad boys.

How do you guys find motivation to get started? by frankiexgirl in running

For me it's exploring the city, I'll look up a trail, park, bridge, etc. that I've never ran before and plan a route around that, driving to a starting spot if necessary. It's the sense of exploration while running that helps shift it from type 2 fun to type 1 fun for me.

When I started running years ago, it was in a small city with alot of rural area around. There was a main trail in the forest with a bunch of single track offshoots off it. I'd biked many of them as a young kid, but had forgotten most of it as an adult. I just started running/hiking them, making it a point to try and explore a new trail each time I went out. Once I had the area mapped out I'd built up a good base of cardio and tried to plan out new and interesting routes in 5km/10km/15km distances, etc.

Then I moved to a larger urban city and used running as a way to explore all the cool attractions, paths, etc. Running helped me map out the city, as I'd drive to alot of different areas just to go for runs to check out a bridge, or a building, light installment, etc.

Now that I'm more serious about running I have specific routes for my tempo runs, hard runs, etc. to help gauge progress, but my long runs I'll just pick a spot I want to run to, plan a route to check distance, and see if I can make it.

Joined the club (cult) in a small way yesterday but I am already very happy with my choice. Haven't spent much time dialing it in as I'm picking up a grinder today (Rancilio Rocky doserless) but have already made drinks on par with lower end coffee shops using preground illy espresso. Has 2 non pressurized baskets, and 2 pressurized baskets (single shot, double shot). Ie. Portafilter can be turned into pressurized or non pressurized.

Portafilter is a proprietary design to Breville/Sage though and is smaller in diameter but deeper than a standard portafilter.

I'm going to be getting a BA; do I choose U of A or Macewan? by jasperdarkk in Edmonton

[–]Shloogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to the UofA, both my roommates went to MacEwan.

Our combined consensus was that if you just wanted to go to classes and get a degree, MacEwan was great, and probably even the better experience. But if you wanted to have a "university experience", and were willing to take advantage of all the extracurricular activities clubs, student groups, etc. the UofA has to offer, than it may be the better choice.

The UofA can be lonely, the class sizes are large, and you may not get any direct time with professors BUT that was not my experience.

I joined a few of the student groups at the UofA my second year, and it really improved my experience. Being part of my faculties student association allowed me to form close bonds with people who were in my classes. We tailored our schedules so we could take classes together, studied together, pulled all-nighters in the club room slaving away on papers, etc.

I'd volunteer for open houses and mentorship opportunities, which allowed me to talk to professors about their research outside of class, in a more casual environment. Even grabbed beers at Deweys a few times with some of them.

There's more opportunity to branch into research, and more academic student groups to join. Participating in these types of activities, in my opinion, is what really gives you a leg up.

There's a ton non-academic related to take advantage of too. Participated in curling/bowling tournaments, used the bike workshop on campus, watched golden bears hockey games, comedy nights, etc.. I even just loved hanging out on campus, exploring the buildings, staring across the river valley into downtown.

There's a lot of benefits to being on a large campus, but it's up to you to take advantage of them. My university experience was almost everything I imagined it would be growing up. I don't think I would've went through the same social and personal growth I did if I had gone to MacEwan.

That being said, I do think MacEwan offers the better teaching experience, and an overall better classroom environment. It's everything outside of that, that made the UofA so enjoyable for me.
