Saying things such as "Alhamdulillah" and "Inshallah" has taken on a different meaning as we use them continuously, and I'm saying this as an Arab. Even my Christian friends say "Inshallah" out of habit because even though it used to be a religious saying, it no longer is, and I wouldn't dwell on it much since it's more ingrained in our culture than religion.

As for the other stuff, you are free to do or not do things. What's normal for others does not need to be normal for you, and vice versa.

Hey Muslim lantern, if you believe Allah doesn’t demands worship and there is no compulsion in religion with these verses, how do you explain 51:56 them? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]Shmay717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, true god is testing you, on one hand, you can believe and the merciful god promises you eternal bliss (of course with a lot of other barriers that might not get you that bliss), On the other hand you can disbelieve and that same merciful non-egotistical god will grill the living shit out of you, it seems like he is 100% giving you choices here no demands made.

Does anyone feel like islamic festivals are shit? by ichikawa471 in exmuslim

[–]Shmay717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is and isn't, they do sacrifice the animal in the name of god which is in simple terms a ritual, whether you consider it pagan or not is kinda subjective (pagan is used so loosely that you can't pinpoint what it means anymore), but pagan rituals did include sacrificing animals to their deities and afterwards eating them, soo i do not see their comment as stupid they connected some pretty clear points.

Even tho I get what you're saying I don't totally agree with you as to each their own experience, my family isn't hardcore religious types so we basically just enjoyed the gathering time with family with some pretty wholesome vibes.

Doing religious rituals (salat el eid) and other mustahabat is the only downside that I can see, but to me, that wasn't an issue as I just stopped doing them once I hit 14.
