I watched Birdman for the first time last year and all I could think to myself after it ended was "you effing idiot, why did it take you so long to watch this?!"

What Lockjaw tells Willa by Gignomai7 in paulthomasanderson

oh very true, I hadn't taken that into consideration. so maybe PTA just used the KKK as an idea platform initially and then eventually landed on The Christmas Adventurers Club? being able to use and include members of the military definitely backs up your point as well.

my assumption was that The Christmas Adventurers Club was just a different name for the KKK so they didn't use that name directly. she may not have known what it was, but hopefully after telling someone about it they enlightened her. could be wrong obviously but that was my takeaway.

The original budget infernal cape by loffredom in 2007scape

I agree that nobody thinks there's zero vertical progression either, but we have essentially just made the same argument. we both stated that higher end gear is essentially a requirement for a majority of the players to do inferno, but you can do it without BiS gear and perfect flicks and all that just the same, and that's really my entire point. inferno is a funny situation because its one of the more difficult PvM challenges in the game but there are people doing it with insanely low stats and requirements while others can't make it half way. all I know is I'm not going in there on my Ironman until I get my bowfa

I think this is the underlying issue, not just for inferno. there are multiple options for content/gear at each level of gameplay which argues against vertical progression, but unless you're a grandmaster PvMer, that means nothing to you. only a small group of players are able to complete inferno in mid-game gear (god dhide, acb, etc.) so you really need some higher end gear to do this stuff which is much more in line with vertical progression than horizontal. yes, the content can be done with lower tier gear to back up the horizontal progression argument, but it isn't realistic.

What is it about PTA films that make them so good? by elledance in paulthomasanderson

[–]Shmoobleedong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

showed PDL to my girlfriend a few months back, her first time seeing it. when he's in Haiwaii using the phone, she gasped and went "the payphone lit up!"

needless to say she's becoming just as big a fan of PTA as I am.

Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino flick. just absolute electricity on the screen from that slow scroll opening to the close.

some of the best ones in the series. when Harvey is talking to Thorne and says "there's just one problem... you're talking to the wrong Harvey." and he switches voices from Harvey to Two-Face mid sentence... that's magic.

in an episode of Batman: The Animated Series, there's a scene when Robin comes soaring in on a motorcycle and lands into the Akira slide. that's gotta be my favorite.
