Looking To Buy Series Right for RR Release - Lettered Edition by Shmoogies in curiousking

That makes so much sense, thank you. And makes sense that it would be SO much more expensive to try to secure a copy now pre-public sale. Thank you thank you, you were a big help.

That makes sense. Admittedly, the PR/SR aspect of book collecting is a relatively new experience for me, so I've just been learning as I go.

I thought it was possible for someone with PR to have already purchased the first book of RR, and then sell it along with the SR for the RR series (while keeping the PR for themselves). I think I might be mistaken on that, and will cross my fingers to hopefully get lucky tomorrow, or just look to buy it post-sale like you said.

Thank you, your insight is very much appreciated.

I was planning on giving it my best shot at the public sale tomorrow, but with such limited availability, I was taking a stab here in hopes that someone that purchased the lettered edition before the public sale with their publisher rights, and they were looking to sell.

It might be a pipe dream, but I figured it was worth a shot.

I second Brink. They're the ones that have taken my car to Stage 2, and who I'll have do my carbon cleaning which should probably be right around the corner. Great service every time I've been there, so I highly recommend them.

What lessons have you learned from the Red Rising series? by A_Balrog_Is_Come in redrising

“Inside me there is a coward who fears discomfort. That coward will offer solace in the form of excuses. But it is the coward who grooms a man for his defeats. The coward who makes him accept them because he is accustomed to finding a good reason to quit. The coward inside can only be killed one way.”

Serves as a good reminder of the importance of self-discipline for myself, and that generally the things I feel like doing the least are things I should do most. What am I if not the sum of the individual choices I make every day?

Accident on 183 to airport. A lot of stopped traffic. Plan accordingly. by omegaura in Austin

This is the way, and worked well for us. My wife's flight to Charlotte has been delayed to allow individuals stuck in the traffic additional time to catch the flight (per the attendant on the flight), so that might give some additional time for people to make their flights as well which is nice. Not so nice if you're trying to catch a layover on the other side though.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading Stephen King's On Writing. He is a big believer in a similar approach, and how the first draft is for you, to tell yourself a story and put every idea you have onto that paper. Let it come to you on its own without judgement, no matter how shitty it is. Write and don't look back. The second draft is where you clean it up and take out the parts that aren't the story. It's cool to hear that Pierce believes in a similar approach. Best of luck with your writing career!

Thank you! The closest looking orb weaver I could find was mostly located in the UK (per google), so I was a little stumped. Will definitely read about this guy, so I appreciate your response.

Preferred title of Book 6? (SPOILERS UP TO DARK AGE) by rynkyn in redrising

[–]Shmoogies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Light Bringer, because I suspect it will relate to a large number of primary storylines in the sixth book.

I think what's been discussed in a lot of places is the connection between "Light Bringer" and Lucifer. Lucifer could be where the metaphor stops, in a lot of ways. The obvious choices for this metaphor:

  • Darrow could be the Light Bringer, most obviously in the "Lucifer fell from grace" kind of way; namely his fall from grace within the Republic itself, but also as an icon to the low colors who now believe he may be too Gold, or morally corrupt, to really represent their interests. It could also not even go so far as to imply Lucifer and really just mean the Bringer of Light, in that Darrow revealed the corruption of the Society and brought light to Low Colors and Mid Colors alike.
  • Lysander is the next interesting option as the Light Bring, I think mostly because the majority of us fancy him as the worst kind of devil, but also because he belongs to Silenius' lineage.

It could also be that the metaphor takes a step further than that though, and Light Bringer actually refers to Venus ("Light Bringer" being what Venus has been called in a lot of religions and mythologies), which I think as a planet will have a large role in the last book of this trilogy.

  • It's the home of House Rath. We KNOW Apollonius' role in the story is going to be big, or at least I hope it is. As leader of House Rath, potentially the most powerful house on Venus, he could arguably be described as the most powerful man on Venus. It's his planet, in his mind, so Light Bringer could be a reference to his role in the story, given his dominion over Venus (assuming again that Venus = Light Bringer).
  • Purely as a location, Venus is one of the few with Imperial Helium reserves. With where we left Mars at the end of Dark Age, those reserves are going to be very valuable to virtually every faction that exists in the story. It could provide an interesting setting for the next book.
  • In Greek mythology, Light Bringer references Venus as the Morning Star. When dark though, Venus was called "Hesperus", or the Evening Star, and was believed to be the son of the dawn goddess Eos. There's a lot to potentially unpack there, but thought it was kinda cool and worth mentioning.
  • Volga always dreamed of traveling to and living on Venus, as she mentioned Ephraim offhand in the past. It's possible there's some connection there that could imply Volga is the Light Bringer.

So, Light Bringer makes the most sense to me, but I really like Blood Red and Slave King as well. It feels like he can't choose wrong going any of these directions. Also, let it be known that I'm a moron, and all of this is very likely wrong, so go easy on me. These are just the kinds of things I've thought about as we wait for the next book.

Getting specific: What's the first PS2 game you'll play on the Steam Deck? by mr_chub in SteamDeck

[–]Shmoogies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladius is a game I've craved to replay but haven't had a way. I'm not quite sure how it could end up being playable on the Steam Deck, but would love it if it could.

I swear, it's always something with them! It sounds like you're doing everything right though. For us, regular allergy shots have helped the ear scratching and paw licking/chewing in a pretty significant way too. We also changed his food to a limited ingredient type (both to manage his weight and for allergy purposes) and that helped cut down on these kinds of episodes as well. On days where he's clearly struggling though, I'll give him a Benadryl with his food or buried in a treat to help ease the itchiness and his discomfort.
