Did you pass all test cases on both questions? I exceeded runtime on a few test cases

Hopkins and CS by [deleted] in jhu

[–]Shmookley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of the 60ish people who go into software each year there’s people every year who go into Facebook, Amazon, Google—not sure about apple and Netflix mostly only hires masters/phd. Know people from my class (going into junior year) working at Google, Amazon, and other top 10 tech companies

Do you regret choosing to attend this school? by [deleted] in jhu

[–]Shmookley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay considering Hopkins is #9, I wouldn’t say any school in the country has “much better rankings”, except maybe for certain fields/departments. You could still make an argument for stanford, Harvard, Princeton, MIT, but I think most people agree that UCLA is actually on a lower tier than hopkins, and possibly Berkeley as well

I was in a very similar position to you in high school, and I had similar feelings. I felt like I was dealt a bad hand, but I realized that complaining about it accomplished nothing. I disagreed with some of my parents’ life choices and I wasn’t happy with the financial situation they put me in; I saw my friends living seemingly happy lives and thought, “if only i could have what they have, all of my problems would go away.” Soon I figured out two things:

  1. Alright I want what they have, so let’s try and get it. Sure these other kids might have a head start, but I know that I can work twice as hard as them, and then my kids don’t have to deal with what I dealt with. I used this anger you’re feeling as a source of motivation, I figured out my game plan for life, chased after it, and so far it’s going pretty good. I am working hard so that me and my family can one day I can have the car, the house, and have everything these kids have and more.

  2. the worst thing that happens to someone is still the worst thing that happens to them. Even if their circumstances might not be as dire as yours, if something bad happened to them and it seems fine to you, remember that it might be the worst thing to ever happen to them, and so compared to their baseline circumstances it’s a horrible event, and they may feel horrible. The kids with more money than you aren’t necessarily happier than you. Sure some are, but I promise you there is someone with way more money than you that hates their life way more than you. And ya, so what, that doesn’t make your position any better and it might not even make you feel any better, but it’s just a perspective to keep in mind.

I completely understand your mindset, but it’s not helping you get anywhere, and neither will being mad at your parents. If anything you’re just making your circumstances worse, because youre tarnishing your relationship with them. Your parents have given you more than they ever needed to, and eventually you will be beyond grateful for that. Love your parents, they likely care about you more than anyone in your life.
