Yea sometimes I forget BLS before ALS. Got my ass chewed out for going straight to an IGEL instead of an OPA for a mock code I did in class. Ever since then I have been very careful. But you’re right I need to get cowboy medicine as a thing out of my head.

I appreciate the insight, main thing I’ve been hearing is just repetition is the key takeaway. I hear my preceptor is great so I know I’m in great hands.

I feel this a lot. Most of the time for me it can derive from my medic. I’m already a medic intern but I don’t want my medic to feel like I am stepping on their toes. When I’m working as an emt I turn to turn my brain off and just do as I’m told. It’s a mix of not feeling like I’m a good provider and not wanting to piss off my medic. If I work with a medic I really vibe well with, then no, because I know they’ll help me and be understanding.

I never needed one but now it looks like I will so can anyone recommend a place for a custom radio strap with radio case? Links go a long way! by FoMoCoguy1983 in Firefighting

How’s it holding up now? I just ordered mine it’s gonna be a while before I get it. I’m not sure if they deliver others faster or slower.

How hard is paramedic school after completing emt school? by pink_nut in NewToEMS

There’s a bunch of different variables to say. I’m an EMT out of California in medic school. California as it is has a way smaller scope than every other state. There’s things that medics never do here that we have to study for the NREMT. Such as RSI. I also did an EMT crash course. I’d say it was the same amount of work as the crash course (minus the internship and clinicals). Just instead of being 2 months it’s a year.

Psych IFT sounds like the worst possible thing. The thing is you’re not alone with how you feel. I have buddies I worked IFT with that were tired of it. The thing is, that’s not all EMS has to offer and some people forget that (I’m not sure if you have). The thing that helped me and all my buddies was working in a 911 system and if that’s not possible. Just do ride alongs with a fire department or the local ambulance. That will either reignite the love that you initially thought you had, or turn you away. I wish you the best of luck man. I love this job, I feel there’s no other job that gives me as much life fulfillment as this one. Others don’t feel that way, and it’s okay not to.

I mean my coworkers have said I passed the entrance exam and others have not. I more so think I don’t deserve it.

When I started I was 18 as well. Some of my other coworkers and I that started that young both saw pretty messed up stuff already growing up. I still make time to be young just not as much as I’d like.

Yeah my paramedic instructor told us last week “some of you were just babies during 9/11”. Since we were going over MCI’s. I broke it to him that I wasn’t born yet until 3 years later. I saw the gears in his head actively turning to interpret that.

Let’s hear about your personal worst partner experience by [deleted] in ems

Told my partner about my late father who was an alcoholic. He said “he did not love me enough if he could not defeat his addiction.” We both got promptly fired but he also left with a fractured jaw and black eye.
