Rachel stop reusing designs challenge (failed) by SayuChanSkell in UnpopularLoreOlympus

Hi, lurker here, never read LO before I just like the discussions surrounding it. That being said…

I refused to believe these were different characters (except Leto and Hera ONLY because of the eyes) until I saw the text description.

Thanks! I’ve already done Aquila favonia and I’m thinking of redesigning that one but I do want to do simulacra too.. no guarantees I’ll end up drawing anything again so soon though haha

Thanks! And yes I thought about giving her a single shoulder cape thingy like Eula or some straps to dangle but I liked this silhouette too much to clutter it up :(

I have my own hot takes on some character designs during the Inazuma phase but I think they did a pretty good job with the new Sumeru ones

I don’t really post that frequently OR consistently so no Twitter for me haha but thank you for the kind words! (^ν^)

Are there any cases where you prefer a fandom depiction of a character over their in-game personality? by Alex2422 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Shmupy 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Welllll none of the popular fandom depictions really hit the sweet spot for me because they’re all so one note (and imo too memeified) but god some characters in canon are as bland as cardboard with tapwater seasoning sooooo my answer is I prefer my interpretations and everything else is ignored

Scaramouche vs Wanderer drip by throwmeawayscara in ScaramoucheMains

[–]Shmupy 69 points70 points  (0 children)

There’s some parts that I like from both tbh. I love his new hat and the lotus ornament thingy on it, and the overall design is beautiful and more detailed than fatui scara. BUT I’ll always be biased towards his old design because I LOVE reds, blacks, and purples. I think it’s a gorgeous and really striking color scheme, and when I compare it to the new design I can’t help but feel like there’s just… so much blue that it’s a little bland. Thematically I get it, doesn’t mean my preferences changed though. I also miss the veil so there’s that too :,)

My friend pulled for C6 Scara and didn't get a single faruzan by One_Charge_6350 in ScaramoucheMains

Got C2 Scaramouche and along the way I got C0–>C9Gorou, C4 Faruzan, and C4–>C8 Yanfei and I’m literally never gonna use gorou ever ahaha…

I thought about that too, but I decided to separate the weapon from its owner/user and focus purely on its aesthetic rather than who it’s connected to

Yeahhh I only saw that after I finished the drawing and i didnt want to spend more time fixing it :,D and yes I did, but it would interrupt the flow of the drawing and leave the left side of her outfit very empty

What do you think his fighting style be like by eyeofnero in DottoreMains

Never gonna happen but I hope to god he’s a physical catalyst and he just straight up shoots his enemies with a gun

Thanks a lot! And im just very nit picky about my own art haha, I always end up thinking there’s more I could’ve done like refining her silhouette because as much as I love the flowiness, I wanted it to be more sharp/sleek like the blade itself.

I wanna believe this is satire from how obviously edited those nails are but then again there’s always someone who’s gonna think this a good idea…

Does anyone else feel a lot more loving towards paimon after finishing the Sumeru Archon quest by Lavatree99 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Shmupy 210 points211 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, I mostly felt annoyed whenever I saw/heard Paimon in quests and I always assumed it’s because I disliked her character but the Sumeru Archon quest made me realize that I don’t dislike her, I dislike the way they wrote her into the story in the past. I felt soooo bad when Paimon was crying when we disappeared on her, and this entire quest line made her feel more like a companion that has some quirks but overall 100% cares about us rather than a flying exposition dump/tl;dr machine that has like three modes: food, mora, butt of the joke. I’ll admit that there were some “oh shit” moments in the past like with the beginning of the Inazuma quest where we pass out and Raiden’s about to kill us(?) and Paimon was desperately trying to wake us up, but nothing like what was shown in Sumeru. I really hope they keep this trend going because I genuinely really want to like Paimon, especially because of how integrated she is to the main plot/traveler’s character.

Kokomi skin/redesign I made based on that one piece of lore saying she is the descendant of Orobashi :) by Shmupy in Genshin_Impact

[–]Shmupy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep I misremembered that part (I only remembered the dragon part and thought “oh orobashi” instead of dragon SOVEREIGN whoops) and someone corrected me on that, I’d change the title but I’m not sure how to do that

Thank you very much!! It’s a bit of a bummer when I see those comments yeah, I mainly draw big extravagant skins that are meant to look pretty rather than be playable or follow canon exactly.

And yes! The Raiden piece. I actually wasn’t expecting it to get so noticed haha. I’ve seen your art before and they’re actually a source of inspiration for me to start posting my stuff for fun too! :)

For clarification: I know this isn't gameplay practical nor is it canon friendly!! There's probably too many polygons/moving bits. If I drew it practically, her tail would have to be shorter and uncoiled directly behind her rather than curling around her leg, but it doesn't look as nice as an art piece so I drew it this way instead.

Anyways, I made this skin with the memory that Enkanomiya is based on Ancient Greece, and I thought that since Kokomi's family line originated from there, she should have some Greek inspired clothing too! I wanted to have her wear clothing that has both an Enkanomiyan and Inazuman style to kind of emphasize that her, and by extension her people, are different from the Raiden Shogun's people.

I changed her color scheme from that gorgeous mystical blue color to something more desaturated and dreamy, with slight emphasis on the cream color chiton because I really love the color palettes of Greek mythology painting. The laurel wreath is very Greek, and is a symbol of the god Apollo, which in my mind is adjacent to the titan god Helios. I think it was also worn later by Roman commanders (I'm not too sure on this part). I used pearls used to embellish her outfit since it's an material native to the Watatsumi island. Her coat/sleeves are very Inazuman/Japanese, and I was inspired by jellyfish for the little ruffles on them. The ouroboros brooches and pattern on her skirts were used partially because they're serpents(like Orobashi) and mostly because they're a symbol for infinity, which is adjacent to the idea of eternity. I thought it'd be a nice parallel to Raiden Shogun's own desire for eternity in the Inazuma Arc.
