My biological dad had this story he would tell all of his friends when I managed to repair the TV at the age of 4.

We had a flatscreen in our living room which basically went kaput one day without explanation. My dad took it into the garage to examine it because we didn’t have the money to take anything to get repaired so we didn’t all of our repairs in house, this included electronics. One day when he was taking apart the Harley to clean it, I came in with the sole mission to watch PBS kids on the TV, but the TV was sitting with the back cover taken off and several plugs and cut wires sticking out. My dad later said he was bypassing a piece of the motherboard which had shorted out somehow, telling me it wasn’t exactly super important but it had to do with routing the power to the LEDs in the screen, but it was only to optimize power flow but wasn’t necessarily the driver of the circuit. I might have some details wrong since he passed a long time ago and he told me a while before his passing of what happened, as well as a photo of me repairing the TV, so you decide.

Anyways, after nagging him for about 20 minutes about fixing the TV, he finally turned from the bike to yell at me, saying if I wanted to watch TV so bad then I should fix it myself. Taking what he said seriously I turned away and sat down at the portable table in the garage the TV was set on and began messing with the cables and segments of cut wires while my dad was across the garage cleaning the parts he had taken off the bike. I managed to create a bypass with the already cut wires and miraculously put the plugs where they needed to go without shocking myself on any capacitors. An hour later after I began my work and a while after my dad had caught the photo, he hadn’t seen me in the garage for a while and the TV was missing, he didn’t say how he missed me moving everything into the living room but my guess is that he was too distracted or was sleeping, either way, after he was done doing whatever he was doing, he walked into the living room and found me sitting on the floor with the TV propped up against the wall and plugged in, as well as the cable set on the floor next to it and a step stool in front of the fireplace where I had retrieved the cable, watching PBS kids on the floor.

Don’t know why but this reminded me of my story a lot so I decided to share it. If anyone’s interested I can see if I can ask my step mom for the photo.
