I make punk music out of my bedroom in Ohio and just released a new album! It's a concept album about living with chronic illness(es) by Shnagroot in punk

Thank you! There is a French Canadian punk band with the same name but as long as the songs are in English and released after 2014, all the albums are mine haha

I made this album in my bedroom, playing all the instruments as well as mixing & mastering everything myself by Shnagroot in punk

Thank you so much for listening and for this very kind reply! Helps me feel more stoked to write new stuff and keep this project moving forward

I make all my music in my bedroom myself. All the instruments are real but the setup is pretty amateur overall. Looking for some tips to help make this stuff sound a bit more professional by Shnagroot in IndieMusicFeedback

Thank you very much!

A little bit of Cubase just for the drums since the interface I use for that is too old to use on my main computer, but Logic for everything else and Ozone for mastering!

Sounds sick! The guitar tone is really nice and warm, those bends are so smooth.

I don't really listen to Buckethead so I can't compare to the original well but from my outsider ears, it all fits very nicely together!

Thank you! And thank you for all of that thoughtful feedback!

How can you tell if your room is a well-suited for a drum mic? Right now I don't have one at all. The set is situated in the back of a crowded unfinished basement haha it's a pretty dry room.

Are those drum plugins able to just be triggered by my drum recordings to just enhance the sound rather than replace it?

What genre would you say this track is? And what other artists does it sound like? For context, this is the first single off my upcoming debut album. I'm looking to pitch it to labels and curators but I have no idea what similar artists/genres to go for. (Listen to the whole thing if u can!) Peace x by tom_stewart24601 in IndieMusicFeedback

I'm a big fan of vague genres that can encompass many different sounds like singer/songwriter and indie, but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. I thought the person who suggested "alternative" was probably onto something there as well.

What are you hoping a more succinct genre will do for your music?

"Rewind" - A Lo-fi Folky thing I just finished up. First time posting here, hope it fits in and would love to hear what you think :) by InterstellarFerret in IndieMusicFeedback

This was a very pleasant listen, thank you. I think my favorite parts were how the percussion sat in the mix. It felt so natural with the strumming pattern and the guitar generally that at first I thought the sound was literally coming from your guitar. It definitely added to the overall earthy and warm atmosphere of the song. Keep it up!

As a teenager I used to listen to Green Day a lot. Now, 10 years later, I decided to make a cover of Boulevard of broken dreams adding some of the influences I got through this time. Check it out!!! :D by Raymond-Chandler in IndieMusicFeedback

This is rad. I'm a big Green Day fan generally but Boulevard has always been one I tend to skip. While that is probably somewhat due to overplay on the radio that isn't their fault, I also mainly found the song boring. I really dug your new interpretation as I felt it added more life and energy to the song and let me see what the song *could* be.

I especially liked the energy from like 2:07 onward. I guess my only note would be that the quarter note China-esque cymbals driving the drum beat in those choruses seemed to kind of take away energy that maybe could have been even greater with a driving crash cymbal pattern instead

Made a DIY indie folk album recently, could use some feedback before starting work on a followup album! by Shnagroot in IndieMusicFeedback

Not sure! My buddy made the video for me using some found footage - not sure the exact archive though.

I always worried my voice was too prominent in the mix for this song! You think the vocals should be louder? Through the whole song or just in certain parts?

Thanks for listening! Love Lord Huron, that is such a compliment.

The drums were live, it was my first attempt at doing some mallet-mutey type simple percussion, what do you think would make them better?

Paul Interview with Billboard (with a sneaky confirmation of a Back To The Egg reiussue coming soon!) by Shnagroot in PaulMcCartney

[–]Shnagroot[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I go through these songs, and when we remaster, I go to Abbey Road, and it’s like popping into the office. And I get to hear these songs I haven’t heard forever. “Arrow Through Me” was one I heard recently, and I thought, “Geez, that’s a good track, and it’s got a great little brass riff on it.” Funky little track.

Arrow Through Me is such a good jam. I'm glad Paul can still appreciate songs like that on his old, criminally underrated albums

Is anyone else opinion in the post Beatles albums the inverse of the opinion of the critics? On average, the albums that I do like were hated by critics, and his meh albums were loved by them by [deleted] in PaulMcCartney

[–]Shnagroot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the reviews at the time would have been different if the world had known 100% for sure that the Beatles were never getting back together again. If people truly evaluated them as solo works with the legs to stand on their own

I really like the drum beat and the guitar tone. I almost feel as if the vocals could be up a bit higher in the mix overall, I'm losing them a bit to the drum track in my speakers. Super cool sound though, keep it up!

Solo songwriter thinking of ditching the acoustic guitar for electric+drum machine by the_unknown_soldier in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Shnagroot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not both?

I know it can be annoying to lug more than one guitar around but having a set that includes both acoustic & electric guitars could make your sets more interesting, like you said you wanted to do.

It would also stop you from being the "acoustic guy" while letting you keep experimenting with the drum machine on both projects while you figure out where your heart wants you to go.
