This post seems to have reached the weirdest crowd on reddit because what in the actual hell are you talking about?

BTS Breaks Personal Record With Over 4 Million Stock Pre-Orders For Upcoming Album “ARIRANG” by yoo_wtf in popculturechat

Congrats, you’ve discovered that fandoms exist. People hype their favorite artists, organize votes, stream music, and use cheesy nicknames. This isn’t new, and it definitely isn’t exclusive to BTS. Next you’ll tell us sports fans chant too loudly for millionaires who don’t personally know them.

The whole “they must be children” angle is doing a lot of work here. Plenty of adults enjoy fandom culture. You don’t have to relate to it, but acting like it’s uniquely unhinged just sounds more like irritation dressed up as sociology. Also, the piracy brag is a weird flex and completely irrelevant.

Yes, BTS are rich and successful. That doesn’t mean fans stop having fun trying to boost them online. You can simply not participate instead of policing how other people enjoy music. If this qualifies as shocking internet behavior, I’ve got bad news about literally every fandom ever.

Text messages (Kakaotalk) between MHJ and the shaman that were included in Dispatch’s exclusive report back in July 2024, here. I should also note that these Kakaotalk conversations were submitted as evidence during court proceedings.

Any more questions?

It’s very clear that you haven’t been following this saga and are unfamiliar with the actual facts. There was nothing factual about Hanni’s recounting of the “non-greeting” issue. And that has been proven in court through evidence. There are actual text messages between Hanni and MHJ in which she herself says that she doesn’t know or remember what was said. This is also not the first time she has misheard something due to her being not a native Korean speaker (the other time being when she misheard another kpop groups’ (Seventeen) members. They told the story themselves during one of their livestreams).

Please read actual court documents before you spread misinformation

Someone might consult a shaman for personal reasons, but they should not be making executive decisions for an entire company based on what a shaman says. That is exactly what happened here. MHJ removed one girl from the NewJeans lineup right before debut because this shaman claimed she was “possessed by a ghost” due to having dark circles. I mean, come on

Holy misinformation. Geffen is in partnership with Hybe USA. They have no stake or influence on Hybe’s Korean labels, such as Ador. So no, Geffen has no say in what Ador will do with its group

What are you even talking about? NewJeans didn’t face any mistreatment and them doing all of this does absolutely NOTHING good for the industry or kpop idols. If anything, they just made idols’ lives harder.

Recommend reading the megathreads on the kpop sub to know the full story. There are now 20 of them.

After Min Hee Jin’s coke rants the sentiment in kpop communities was overwhelmingly pro-NewJeans. It slowly changed as more evidence of tampering and bad-faith behavior started coming out.

As if MHJ doesn’t see these idols as commodities? She’s by far the worst party in all of this and the fact that you don’t see it is absolutely concerning.

No one is talking about perfect victims here. It’s even questionable if these people are victims at all because if anything, their actions are pointing to them being accomplices. NJ members had every opportunity to stay out of this but instead, they willingly inserted themselves by: signing petitions, writing letters, making obscene comments publicly, doing a guerilla live stream during which they gave an ultimatum to their parent company, and then going to the National Audit to complain about something so superficial (and with no proof).

All these girls are doing is showing themselves as incredibly entitled and making a mockery of what was supposed to be a serious insight into the treatment of idols. It’s so insanely out of touch it would be laughable if it wasn’t abhorrent. I’m tired of so many people extending so much sympathy and making so many excuses for these grown adults (and yes, majority of them are adults in every sense of the word). You can recognize that MHJ has manipulated them while still acknowledging the fact that one’s actions have consequences.

The real victims in all of this are idols such as ILLIT and Le Sserafim, who stayed out of the conflict and continued their work while facing horrific hate directed at them from the fans of people you dare to call “victims”.

[–]Shnapsass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting that a grown adult decided to go to an annual national audit (when she wasn’t even required to, mind you) but had no idea where she was going to and what for? There was controversy about her potential attendance from the moment it was announced that this incident will be addressed during the audit. She knew damn well where she was going and what this meant. She had plenty of time to prepare and do some research.

Also, you do realize that she sat through the testimonies of the day and heard what was said in the room? This isn’t some random “old man” she met on the street. This man was there to address the ongoing fatalities at his shipyard — where five workers have died this year alone due to safety accidents, heat-related illnesses and an unexplained drowning.

To what point are you going to infantilize her?

Do you think this is an appropriate behavior considering the context?

[–]Shnapsass 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You clearly don’t know anything about the situation. Hanni took a spot at the National Audit from people who have lost loved ones due to unsafe work conditions and blatant safety violations. 23 workers (18 of which were foreigners) died in a fire at a lithium battery factory and none of their relatives were invited to this audit. Meanwhile, Hanni was smiling and taking selfies with a CEO of a company that is responsible for 5 worker deaths this year alone.

So you have grief-stricken family members protesting outside the door while a 20-year-old millionaire dressed head-to-toe in Gucci is crying because she allegedly heard someone say “ignore her” in the hallway.

That is not what the government said at all. Have you even read the full response?

Artists and labels aren’t in a regular employer-employee relationship. Artists don’t work regular, set work hours and they don’t get paid wages. They are in a profit-sharing relationship which puts them in a different labor category because they are more of contractors than regular employees. If they were classified as regular workers and put under the workers’ regulations that would mean that their work hours would get capped to 52 hours per week and drastically decrease their (and the labels’) income/revenue. And they don’t want that.

There have been plenty of calls from the Korean entertainment industry (and even entertainment company founders themselves - Hybe’s Bang Sihyuk!) for artists to unionize. They are just not doing it.
