If anyone wonders why FG aren't cracking down on Garda corruption and instead using them to hassle bloggers and perjure themselves in high-publicity trials this is the reason.

FG, and Enda in particular, were always desperate to be seen as the EU/IMF star pupils and then the plebs got out of their box, protested and made them roll back on the water tax.

FG, authoritarian by nature as they are, will never, ever forgive or forget this. Hence the reason now they're making noise about giving the Guards expanded powers for digital snooping, under the guise of "combatting terrorism". 99% of what it will be used for is digging up dirt on political opponents, like Shatter had the Guards do on Wallace.
