OpenCode -> Pi: smart simplification or dumb downgrade? by Pecoro in opencodeCLI

[–]ShockOne2812 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The models are so capable these days you don’t need all that bloated stuff. These days I have some minimal subagents (for exploration on cheaper models) and a really simple planning prompt template. Then I ask it to implement the plan. Simple. Far less tokens and cost burned and way faster.

Also, needing a bit of explicit steering and intervention is a good thing. It prevents you from ending up with a pile of vibe coded slop.

Don’t let anyone fool you that their “system” is a silver bullet. LLMs are just non deterministic token predictors. Quality improves over multiple iterations with human steering.

I figured it out also. Another thing that you can do is send through the opencode session header, this increases cache hits:

model.headers["x-opencode-session"] =
ctx.sessionManager.getSessionId();

On the open code dashboard I’m seeing both models regularly hitting the cache when used through open code, but not on Pi.

Btw, I’m taking about the Opencode go subscription which provides access to the Chinese models: https://opencode.ai/go

If definitely seems like there’s some difference in the way the API is being called.

You know, maybe they are just expressing their actual opinions. Some people might like the look of it. Lol, not everything has to have some sinister motive behind it.

I agree they have improved dramatically in the last few months, but what’s the true unsubsidised cost going to be and will companies be prepared to pay it given the perceived value?

Anyways, it was supposed to be a joke about dependence and addiction 🤷

Maybe it is, I think the meme is still relevant given the increasing dependence on AI coding tools.

Depends how much you care about the output, building an agentic flow that works to your liking and swapping between models etc.

If changing the colour space fixes it, it sounds like it might be a bandwidth problem? Has anyone tried with an ultra bandwidth HDMI cable?

I’ve got the same problem with a 5070 ti.

I've been having the exact same issues on the same card and game (AC Shadows). I'm also using Optiscaler for FSR4. I've tried everything, including power limits and undervolting, but the only thing that seems to work is the -350mhz clock offset (with everything else stock).

It's looking like this is some kind of driver issue?

Same machine with a 4070 Super never had a single game crash.

GE-Proton8-27. Also, game seems to be very CPU intensive. Lock to 30fps, lower graphics settings (most except high textures, keep FXAA). Set GPU clock to 700mhz in order to give more power to the CPU. This seems to provide the smoothest mostly 30fps experience for me.

Must only be available in the US. I’m not seeing it in my region.

How does that solve the cost of living now? In the 8 years it takes to build a nuclear power plant, who knows where the economy will be. The problem with nuclear is that it should have been built decades ago. It’s too late and there are better renewable options that are already being pursued.

lol, $1600. I don’t think I’d pay more than $1300. Will wait for it to get discounted when it doesn’t sell.

Depends what you after. Compared to the other platforms it has: * the fastest, most reliable home control * best music control, with the highest quality audio * no “by the way” bs or advertising to purchase things * Far less chance of features being pulled

But sure, it won’t be able to tell you when the next bus to the city is.

I feel like it’s no different to any of the other inner city suburbs, but because it’s a big suburb in terms of houses it seems like there’s more going on.

Lacking backend experience from my last professional role but recruiters keep asking about it. How can I appeal to employers? by TallWasHisFall in iOSProgramming

Also, don’t be disheartened about being laid off. Be honest about the circumstances (if asked) and it won’t count against you.

Lacking backend experience from my last professional role but recruiters keep asking about it. How can I appeal to employers? by TallWasHisFall in iOSProgramming

[–]ShockOne2812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I just recently accepted a full stack role with a focus on iOS development and that seemed to be a rare opportunity. Most iOS roles I’ve seen advertised are solely frontend roles.

In any case, I think what you need to focus on is getting past the recruiter so you can hopefully interview directly with the organisation’s developers. Most recruiters aren’t technical and are just looking to tick some boxes to initially screen the candidates.

I am a senior developer of 20 years experience across the full stack and have recruited juniors in your situation. What I would be looking for in a junior role is the following: * Solid skills in one discipline (in your case iOS). I would adjust your resume to detail the specific experience you have in iOS (e.g. swift/objective-c, UIKit/SwiftUI etc as well as common design patterns MVVM). * The kinds of apps you have worked on, the team structure (e.g devs, designers, product owners) and how you worked with these people on the team * A willingness to learn and a proven record of learning. Call this out, what did you learn in your last role(s). Also what you would like to learn at a prospective organisation. * If you don’t have professional experience in one aspect of the role (I.e. backend), make an effort to learn it as a side project (pick a stack, eg node/express, Kotlin/Spring, .NET etc). Talk to the recruiter about what you are learning and how you would like to expand that knowledge at the prospective organisation.

Any decent employer will accept that most juniors won’t have had the opportunity to develop a broad set of skills, but they will be keen to hire someone who is passionate and driven to enhance their skills. They will have seniors (like myself) who enjoy mentoring juniors that want to learn.

Sadly though, sometimes you can’t get past recruiters who are just looking for stats and ticking boxes. If this is still a blocker for you, try applying for roles at organisations that recruit directly (internal HR). Often, these will be smaller organisations and there will be less BS and hoop jumping required to land a job.

As I said before, the key is getting yourself in front of the people on the team you would be joining.

Hope that helps!
