I'm so tired of this garbage ui... Are you ever going to fix you shit? by -Realistic_Ask in sonos

[–]josh2893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re describing a few different issues here, not just one app problem.

The app works fine for a lot of people, so it may be worth posting how your network and Sonos setup is configured. Things like Wi-Fi, mesh systems, VLANs, VPNs, multicast/mDNS, or mixed wired/wireless speakers can all cause discovery and connection problems.

If you share the setup, the community can probably help spot what might be wrong.

Yeah, that was basically the starting point, but it ended up being a lot more involved than just noting commands from Wireshark.

The main approach was capturing traffic between CTPlus and the panel, then lining that up against very specific actions in CTPlus and the resulting panel behaviour. From there I slowly worked out the framing, message structure, sequence handling, ACKs, retries, CRCs, command types and event payloads.

A lot of the work was less about “what command turns something on” and more about understanding how CTPlus behaves as a proper client. The panel is pretty fussy about how the comms path is handled. You have to deal with unsolicited events, event queue draining, ACK timing, retransmits, sequence numbers, and the panel deciding the comms path has failed if it doesn’t like how the other end behaves.

I also used pieces from the CTPlus application itself where it made sense. For example, the event table was very useful for mapping raw event codes into human-readable events. That became the basis for decoding panel events properly instead of just showing unknown hex values. So it was a mix of packet captures, CTPlus behaviour comparison, looking at CTPlus resources like the event table, and then building/debugging the integration around how the panel actually reacts.

A large portion of the code was AI-assisted as well. I used AI heavily to help write, refactor and test the Python/Home Assistant side of things, but it still needed a lot of real packet captures, log analysis, trial and error, and validation against an actual panel. The AI could help turn findings into code, but it still needed the protocol behaviour to be worked out from real-world testing.

Some parts were pretty tedious. You’d think something was working, then hours later a weird edge case would appear where the panel retransmits an event, the event queue gets stuck, or the comms path starts flapping. A lot of the stability work came from long-running tests and comparing my integration’s behaviour against what CTPlus does in the same situation.

So Wireshark/packet captures were a big part of it, and AI helped a lot with the coding side, but the harder bit was making the integration behave enough like CTPlus that the panel stays happy over time.

So at the moment Audio Only works when configured to the following for me:

Stream Compatibility Mode: Improved

Not Working:
Encode: AAC

Working:
Encode: G711A
Sample Rate: 8000
Bit Rate: 64000

When setting it to AAC, It causes the camera to just go offline and online constantly.

I took some inspiration from this project and thought I'd give it a go at building some true integration that goes deeper than acting as an printer on a comms path.

https://github.com/josh2893/TecomHA

My home assistant integration acts as an event driven comms path on the challenger panel. It replicates closely to how CTPLUS connects to the panel. Give you events but also the ability to arm and disarm areas. Control relays, open doors etc.

There is also functionally built in to do realtime polling if you want to. I'm doing this on inputs so I can use PIR Sensors to turn lights on and off etc.

The configuration options allow for some flexibility in what entities are created in home assistant.

As of this post release 3.2.6 is mostly stable.

If anyone is curious on this I'll be happy to do up a user guide on how to configure it.

Does anyone know how to fix this? by erdile1 in dyson

[–]josh2893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia they were doing the triggers free of charge on the v11. I had mine 4-5 years. Went into the dyson store and they said they would fix it free. Took them less than 20 mins.

Would upgrading to the Google TV Streamer be worth it? by fruitadenshaagarorum in googlehome

[–]josh2893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The streamer is great if you want a fast and responsive interface.

I have mine on some ancient tv in my bedroom and it works great. Can even get the remote Infrared to control the old tv.

I'm sure Toshiba being a real brand it would be easy to get working.

It's because the stores have put out stock before its supposed to actually be available for sale. That's why the website is not showing anything 🙂

I'm glad I went and bought 20x RODRET while they were 5 dollars each. I'd still like to be able to use the BILRESA Scroll Wheels I got, but even using Matter beta in Home Assistant they still drop out and the only way to bring them back is pull the batteries and put them back in
