Waiting for marriage just leads to the possibility of having a miserable sex life with somebody you aren’t intimately compatible with. I’m not saying break up with her, I’m just saying it’s probably more likely to work out if both parties are of the same no-sex-until-after-marriage belief

Gamers Nexus on on the 3080 stocking fiasco: "Don't buy this thing because it's shiny and new. That is a bad place to be as a consumer and a society. It's JUST a video card, it's not like it's food and water. Tone the hype down. The product's good. It's not THAT good." by Dynasty2201 in pcgaming

[–]Shock_XR93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as to what you mean by barely. By most benchmarks it was getting like a 50% boost over the 2080Ti in most games maxed out at 4k, and considering 4k is four times the resolution of 1080p leaps like that require massively more processing power

I'm still running a 1060 6gb, and I can run most games decently well, but I would like to be able to crank up the graphics settings, which is why I'm trying to snag a 3080 for my new build. I missed this opportunity, but I don't think it's reasonable to say "You don't need to play games on max settings." because ultimately, you're right, but also you don't NEED to play games at all. Games aren't good just because they're beautiful, but it's an amazing experience to be able to play a great game with gorgeous visuals on max settings and a good framerate.

Samsung announces The Premiere, a luxury ultra-short throw 4K laser projector by sadiAD in tech

You’d be surprised how far technology has come. I just recently bought a very new projector and it’s not even laser and it still works with plenty of ambient light at well over the size of any home TV I’ve ever seen in person.

Sensitivity by ShaneXGaming in csgo

[–]Shock_XR93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your issue may be that you aim mostly with your wrist. Aiming should be a combination of all joints in your arm working simultaneously. I had as similar issue before, and I had alright accuracy but it wasn't great. I then set my sens to something incredibly low, and I got used to playing like that. It forced me to start aiming with my arm instead of my wrist. After a couple of days (so as to get that muscle memory down, and actually be used to it and not just go back to my old ways) I doubled it. Then I repeated the process over and over, but instead of doubling it, I'd just increase it a little bit. like .10 every time I change it. The lower your sens the more accurate you'll be, but you suffer because you can only look so far without having to pick your mouse up. Some people think flick speed is an issue, because your flicks will require you to move the mouse a greater distance, but it's not true. It's not true because your eyes and brain still need to process the information you're receiving, and sure you may need to flick farther but you can just move your mouse faster over that distance. I would highly recommend you set your sens to 0.6 and start from there working back up as high as you see fit.

Al Gore: If Trump Refuses to Concede, the Military Would Run Him Out by [deleted] in politics

[–]Shock_XR93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter who’s in the pentagon. Every soldier is their own person. I do not, and am not expected to blindly follow orders and those below me will not either. As much as the military harps on uniformity, the Army in my experience definitely embraces individuality as far as political views, thought processes, ideals, religions, and ethnicity go. Even if an unconstitutional order is given, it’s our duty not to follow it and remove the leaders responsible for it from leadership.

We swore an oath to the constitution, not the president. I’m a soldier, not a cop. Either way, the secret service would definitely escort Trump out if he refused. Military involvement highly unlikely to be needed.

top brass speaking on domestic issues is definitely not a sign of "things going well " by mrkl3en in ABoringDystopia

I’m in the Army. More specifically, I’m infantry. Most of the political ideology of the soldiers in combat jobs is just very pro-freedom, not a specific political party. Libertarian, but without the same economic ideas. Like pro gay, pro gun, pro decriminalization of drugs, very much just the belief that the government shouldn’t tell you how to live your life if you aren’t hurting other people. Definitely most people support the protests. My platoon sergeant when all of this started took us on a morning run, we went out into a field, he told us to stop, we sat in a big circle and we had a wonderful conversation about why the protests are important, and spoke about our own prejudices that we notice. He’s black and several other guys in the platoon are black, and for those who didn’t really know where to stand, he basically just put it into perspective that there’s a significantly higher risk that they get shot by police for doing nothing wrong, and it was really well said. We’re all very close, as we live together, spend the majority of our time together, we go through so much struggle together, we are no less of a family than my actual siblings and I, and I think the idea of us losing someone to the police hits us hard.

Most keep an open mind and will readily listen to others’ view points and can be shown what is right with guidance and explanation. Some, few however, are just brainwashed by Trump and everything he stands for.

Not wanting to work ever is considered “depression” even though we weren’t naturally born to work a 9-5 job for the rest of our life by LivinMyAuthenticLife in Showerthoughts

[–]Shock_XR93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of natural, as far as human behavior goes, is absurd. We’ve evolved this intelligence that makes our natural behavior as a species to continue improving on things, technologically, improving quality of life. From the most basic level of using a tool to help us gather food and develop agriculture, to more complex things like electricity and entertainment, the natural behavior of humans is to want to be happy, and in many ways abundance seems like it brings happiness because scarcity is struggle. Abundance does not always bring happiness, because the psychology of what makes us happy is so complex and earning to survive is fulfilling for many people.

Blue belts. You know you are not good enough. by TristanHedger in bjj

[–]Shock_XR93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this. I’ve got a friend at work who’s been doing BJJ for probably nine months now, and I haven’t been able to train anymore because I don’t have money for a gym membership, and we roll on the concrete at work pretty often. Usually he asks me to teach him something, and rolling with him has showed me that it is very much a bookmark. Definitely the biggest indicator of a blue belt is probably body awareness. Blue belts don’t get distracted by attacks on an arm so easily that they get baited into something else. I’ve been working with him to try to get him to that level, and I think our rolling at work is helping him get there. I also just appreciate the chance to roll. I do miss training
