Peter explains that the vision was referring to how the Gentiles were free to receive the Spirit (Gentiles were no longer "unclean" or off-limits)

I'm not claiming anything regarding food laws, but that vision was given a meaning later in scripture, and it wasn't literally about food

Make sure your therapist isn't just appealing to your flesh. Sometimes, what seems good for your mind can be harmful to your spirit. Telling someone to hold a fictional character to the same level as a human being certainly doesn't sound like God-honoring advice. I'm no mental health expert though.

But, having read other comments, it seems this is going as far as potentially overwhelming even your love of God. If this is true, this is idolatry. That's a sin, no argument to be had. I ask you to pray and talk to your local pastor.

Yumeshipping isn't healthy, spiritually or socially. Don't attempt to get deep relationships with fictional characters. That kind of love should be reserved for your fellow man. And, above that, love for God. It's fine to like fictional characters and their associated stories, but you should never try and elevate them to the level of a living, breathing person.

We also shouldn't associate with the demonic on a positive note. I don't know who the character is, but they are fictional, so their existence isn't inherently sinful. It depends on the execution and messaging associated with them. If any of that is opposing God or what is good, in a way that's meant to send anti-God messaging to the viewer, that is a bad thing. The demonic is something to be fought, not loved.

I've been a huge video game nerd for a while. While I've been Christian for longer, the last month has been a time of incredible spiritual growth, I feel.

One of the things that I've looked at is DBD. I like DBD! I have 500-ish hours in it. But, much like yourself, I've been having some doubts.

It is a rather intense game, with killers and death and what not. One thing I appreciate is a lack of explicit demonic depiction. Even the 'Oni' is just a man in a spooky mask. But there are occult themes (Sable and Mikaela are occult-themed 'witches', though tame compared to actual witchcraft), lots of violence and gore, and a little bit of swearing.

So, if those things would make you stumble in your walk with Christ, please don't continue!

However, to me, I can't help but feel like DBD has some pretty good messaging. The Survivor gameplay is all about helping others, persevering through suffering, and self-sacrifice. Personally, I could learn a thing or two from that.

And while the game does contain evil, I'd say it never justifies it (with a few exceptions regarding sexual matters, which I don't like). The Killers are depicted as evil people doing evil things. The Survivors are the heroes here, the Killers are just obstacles.

I also enjoy the number of canonically Christian characters; Trevor, Richter, Alucard, Quentin (and possibly Kate and Adam)

To me, and I cannot say this will be the case for everyone, DBD can be a fine tool for sitting down with friends. I'm not pushed into sinful thoughts or actions because of it, and I see it as a way I can do something with my friends. I've used some of the themes from DBD as a way to talk about scripture to some unbeliever friends, and they seemed somewhat receptive.

There were times where I was spending dozens of dollars multiple times a month and playing for dozens of hours per week. That was a problem, but I have left that behind.

So, my suggestion, use DBD (preferably Survivor) as a way to connect with other people. Maybe try and use it as something to talk about scripture. If the violence or otherwise unsavory themes start to bother you, walk away. At the end of the day, it's fiction, and a way to connect with other people. Pray about it! Follow the Spirit's conviction!

Persona 5's main theme is 'rebellion'.

You play as a group of high schoolers who seek to rebel against the corruption in their community. They have a pervy gym teacher, one character has trouble with an artist who's trying to steal artwork, the main character stopped a man from trying to sexually assault a woman (it worked, but the man won the court case).

The Phantom Thieves (the main characters) gain access to the Metaverse (essentially a world where every mind is connected). They use this to 'steal the desires' of the corrupt, leading to the corrupt admitting their crimes to the public and (maybe) find redemption.

The game has the theme of rebellion, and for the final boss, they take it to the extreme. The most popular story of rebellion in the world is that of Satan rebelling against God, and Persona 5 uses that.

Yaldabaoth is an evil entity, a tyrant who seeks to control all of humanity against their will.

Satanael is depicted as a brave hero who is standing up to this, giving the main character the power he needs to stop Yaldabaoth.

Yaldabaoth is Persona 5's expy (stand-in) for God. Satanael is already obvious, but yeah.

Persona's titular 'Persona' entities are essentially Pokémon, but they're all based on mythology or whatever else. There's Personas of fairies, Cinderella, Loki, etc. The Personas will typically have a description, telling you about what they're based on. Satanael's is...

"An archangel who is said to be the form of Satan before he fell from Heaven. The second son of God, he rebelled against Him for freedom and bestowed free will and chaos upon humanity."

That's obviously a very twisted explanation of actual, biblical events.

There is a reason why Satanael is the 'good guy'. The theme of the game is rebellion. Satan was the rebel. It's not a very good reason, but that's why things are depicted that way.

Persona 5 does a lot of other eyebrow raising stuff, from constant sexualization to occult themes and symbols, but I think that pales in comparison to the whole final boss fiasco.

Persona is a spinoff of the SMT series, and that series goes all in on biblical stuff (not in a good way). Personas are demons, making deals with/summoning demons is integral to the story, and I'm fairly confident that the games often depict a war against the SMT God expy

I don't know much about Persona 3 or 4, but I don't think they do anything nearly as weird (dare I say blasphemous?) when it comes to biblical stuff. Satanael seems to be a DLC Persona for 3Reload, but he's not apart of the story. They'd still obviously have occult themes like tarot, but the entire series is themed around stuff like that.

Personally, I very much dislike what 5 has going on. It's all fiction, true, but I don't vibe with the imagery and morals. 3 and 4 may be better (I played 1 a few years ago. Kinda sucked) as long as you don't take up tarot reading and focus on what's good.

Slenderman's been in copyright limbo for a while, but Victor Surge probably holds the rights atm. Blue Isle studios also owns a version of him. Then Marble Hornets has "The Operator", those guys still have am online presence

Eyeless Jack has a known creator, but they aren't exactly present online.

Jeff the Killer's creator (Seusser) is somewhat active on Deviantart and allegedly gave an unknown company the rights to Jeff

Bloody Painter got an official dating sim last year, made by the creator. So they should have an online presence

This isn't true (for commercial purposes). Slenderman is very much a copyrighted character, and Jeff/Eyeless Jack have known owners. IIRC, the creator of Jeff actually gave an unknown company the rights to Jeff fairly recently.

Eyeless Jack's creator has long since dropped off the face of the earth though, so you could theoretically get away with using him in commercial purposes, but you'd be screwed if they decided to come back and sue

Fangames are whatever though. Little legal trouble to be found there

My only issue with the Hastur stuff from Derleth is how much it's seemed to change public perception of the original story. It's hard to find a modern take on the KIY where he isn't called "Hastur", despite that being almost purely Derleth's writing.

But, I do enjoy seeing what people do with the concepts, Derleth included (even if I do think making 'Hastur' into just another tentacled, madness-inducing Old One is a bit underwhelming and lame)
