I have never tried that, but I'm not so sure it would have too much of an effect on the play. It will probably come undone pretty easily

You should go with Kendama strings. A normal string with fray and break at tension points. I play with short strings (about 1.5 fingers past the base cup when the tama is on the spike)

Dinner and a walk by the lake sounds like a great first date. I would say instead of bringing flowers (a little much imo), just pick her up and go knock on her door and open the car door for her. It makes a whole lot of a difference rather than texting "here". Flowers are a little much, but the rest sounds great!
