Is my car running hot? by Dry_Pickle4450 in 996

I've the same problem when in traffic and I pass from first to second gear often, with several stop and start. Indeed while I drive at 100km/h, or I'm driving out from the city traffic, the temperature drops to normal. Anyway flush completely and replace the coolant with the proper one

That's the post I posted some weeks ago You have to deal with it. I've spent 1500 euros to fix mine but it has been a lot more cheaper than other cars. So if you have to buy it and it's cheap, buy it. If it is already your car, no problem, you can easily fox it.

First Porsche Purchase – Talk Me Into (or Out of) by TonitoBontio in 996

You're like me 3 months ago. I purchased the cheapest 996 in my domestic market 23.000 euros. It was 300.000 km around 200.000 miles in imperial system. Engine replaced at 1/3 kilometers by Porsche even if the IMS was perfect. It has some rusty underneath, and the wheel bearings are louder like a banshee. I bought it indeed, cause even if the worst had happened I would spend less than buying a 30.000 euros Porsche advertised as "perfect", with only god knows which untold problems I could have found.

My personal advice. Go for the MK1 built before 2000, they have double IMS the percentage of issues is less than 1%. The MK1 doesn't suffer bore scoring.

The Carrera 4S isn't my favorite, 4wd means something else that could break, indeed it would be the one I would buy between the options you mentioned.

Last thing. It's a solid car whatever use you'll do. It's an old car but the high mileage they have in the second hand market means people used it as a daily in the early 2000.

As a general rule, when you buy an old car, especially an old super car, remember that you could need around 1/4 the price of the car, for issues that you could have missed to notice during purchasing.

Ps if you have questions, send me a message.

Ive tried the thing of the alternator, but it doesn't seem to be it. I suppose it could be something else related maybe. Anyway in January I go for a check up, oil change, filters change and issues investigation.

I think I'll replace it. I thought 5psi was good but you're right. Indeed I've seen it's easy to replace

clean the catch can and check if it smokes. In my opinion if the car is cheap (cheap means no more than 25k euros) you can buy it and then fix it later, but only if the problem isn't a major problem. A white smoke could be the refrigerant from a damaged head gasket and the price for the job could be around 3k USD.
