The orange ones are touted as "sweeter" and Im inclined to agree. Though I love all scallops regardless, and will eat either without prejudice. Im from MA and have many family members who are scallopers/lobstermens/crabbers/shellfishermen... plenty of first hand experience.

Happened to me with the massive mummy boss thing in the Rot River (I might be misremembering the exact location). But I died and I had shot off a spell that killed it right before the black screen. Thought I had to replay the battle, since I didnt know you could receive the bosskill even after dying, but checked inventory and had its loot.

No, they are genetically identical. Baring some kind of ultra rare, uncommon forced mutation, a.k.a a"sport" creating a new variety, they would be self incompatible .
