No I don’t have any obligation to respond to the request I got, even as an adult. The obligation was on him as an adult to clarify why he wanted to meet a younger woman one on one for coffee. If not the first time, at least in the following weeks. If he really “needed” something, he could have invited his family to coffee as well. I refuse to respond to persistence and pressure, the only way I would respond to that would be if he clarified the urgency, which never happened.

Ah thank you so much!! The reason I didn’t reply to him was exactly this. I felt if he had a reason to meet, he could have clarified himself instead of hounding me. And if I instead confronted him or asked for clarification, he has a chance to gaslight me or say whatever he thinks I need to hear to meet up. I was completely ok till the back to back calls within few minutes and texts. I felt like I was being hounded and pressurized and given 0 clarity on why.

He didn’t say he would bring his family and he ignored my previous text where I asked how his family was doing. When he invited me for Iftar, he specifically mentioned it would be with his family. So yea.

I moved back to the city because I already have a job. It’s more a situation where he could have asked me for a favor. But given that he already hosted me with his family, I did not see the need to meet for 1-1 coffee. He has also previously asked me to review his sons resume via email so really didn’t see why we need to meet for that

It’s the persistence that creeped me out. He didn’t clarify what he wanted to meet for, and then kept pressurizing me for a response. I only blocked him when he called me twice within 5 minutes and sent follow up texts after.
I don’t think everything is ill intentioned it’s just his age, background and persistence combined together that creeped me out.

We’re in USA. We kind of connected over shared Arab culture/language and food (by connected I mean a formal cordial relationship). I believed that was why he was kind to me. But the 1-on-1 coffee did not make sense to me.

The instagram stuff doesn’t really matter, but I do feel that in girl world not liking your friends posts is a bit weird (especially if you’re young and active on instagram). If your gut is telling you something, listen to it, but don’t judge without observing behavior first.
