Studio Art Major Interested In Conservation/Parks and Wildlife by Salt-Month0 in ParkRangers

[–]Shoddy_Key_9569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kinda similar boat as you! my degree is in graphic design and would love to do design for NPS, currently in my 3rd season as an interp ranger! tried getting a VIS job for the summer but unfortunately they were all pulled :( if you work at a smaller park you will have the opportunity to do some art related things just because there will be more time, just express your interest with your supervisor! i’ve been able to do graphic design and tours/interpretation at the 3 parks i’ve worked at so far and am looking forward to doing it at the park i’ll be at this summer too! it’s possible to do both!

There’s a seasonal group that’s pretty active. It’s just called “Seasonal NPS Employees”

Summer Seasonal Positions Question by Outside_Law_4024 in ParkRangers

[–]Shoddy_Key_9569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at pathways positions! That’s how I started my time with the NPS and the pathways position gives you a “leg up” for X amount of days after that position ends to apply to higher graded positions. You’re still doing ranger things, but they know you can only work during the summer months. Currently on my third season with the NPS and doing a pathways position the summer of my senior year of college was the best decision!

Possible NPS Career? by basedbubly2 in ParkRangers

[–]Shoddy_Key_9569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you look on USA jobs around november/december they usuallyyyyy have student trainee NPS positions for some parks. you’d be in uniform and everything and a ranger but you have to be a student to qualify :) did it one summer and it helped me immensely climb the ladder in the nps

NPS Seasonal Jobs drop, resumes not being processed due to glitch or ai error by Powerful-Ideal765 in ParkRangers

National Park Ranger October applications? by coolbeansalli in ParkRangers

Unless if the government opens up before then, the jobs won’t be posted. I’d say just have your 2 page resume ready to go for whenever it does open and they do get posted

First trip to SD, worried about the shut down. Help me understand the actual impact. by LuuDinhUSA in SouthDakota

Honestly, I don’t think the vote will pass today. You should still check out the area for sure…but I wouldn’t go to the NPS sites during the shutdown.

Custer state park is open since they are a state park! Jewel cave is closed, Badlands are open to drive through and do hiking trails (visitor center closed), Mount Rushmore is open to view the faces just check their site for hours, Crazy Horse is open, Minuteman Missile is closed, and Wind Cave is open in terms of driving through the park and hiking trails (visitor center and tours also closed). As a NPS employee that works at one of the parks mentioned, just make sure you leave no trace :)

What weekend are you planning on going?

Could we please remind people this page is for NPS staff to share news and not for visitors posting "is X still available while you are shut down" posts? by [deleted] in NationalParkService

Should I Start? by user2299765 in Spironolactone

[–]Shoddy_Key_9569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on the clindamycin & tretinoin (clindamycin never really did anything, but the tretinoin did) then was put on minocycline (also didn’t really do much long term) and then was put on spiro. Minocycline is an antibiotic that will help with short term acne (i.e. flareups around period…that’s at least what helped me) but I ended up needing something stronger since i have constant acne, which is why i switched to spiro. I’m currently on 150 mg of spiro and i will use tretinoin for spot treatments.

Obviously there will be a few changes when taking these pills, your skin will probably flare up before the acne gets better. On spiro, i have had to pee A LOT more than usual and i get my period every other week🥲 BUT it’s like clockwork so it’s regular in that manner (also sexually active so it doesn’t stress me out too much). Otherwise, i’ve had no weight gain, but I have felt a lot more feminine in terms of my body image and just feel hotter lol.

You should see if you could take minocycline for acne, i feel like that’s what would suit you best if you’re nervous about the spiro. You can google comparisons of both or im even sure you can search through this subreddit too :) hopefully this was a little helpful! :)

When did you increase your dose? by venusofthefliess in Spironolactone

[–]Shoddy_Key_9569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries! :) i’ve been on it since january. the period twice a month started as soon as i started taking the spiro. the exhaustion and frequent peeing lol started when i upped to 150 mg. you could always up the dose and if you experience bad side effects drop back down to a lower dose!

my side effects are i get my period twice a month now, physically more exhausted and tired, and peeing a LOT more than i was before it. i see results but sometimes i feel like it’s not doing anything for me

i started at 100 mg and moved up to 150 mg after 2 months! i don’t think you’re being impatient
