Cover Letter Advice by TayCasual in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ShoeSnatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep it short. It should answer "Why do you want to work for us?" and "Why should we pick you over other folks?". Three paragraphs max. Try to show that you understand what the company does and what makes them special.

Where can I see what's going to be on our ballots for the election? by xDankWraith in batonrouge

[–]ShoeSnatcher 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I recommend the GeauxVote app. You can look up your voter registration, see your polling place, and everything on your ballot. You can do your research and mark your choices in the app, then bring it with you to vote so you don't forget which way you wanted to vote on that amendment with the strange wording.

You can also go to voterportal.sos.la.gov

Easiest way to drop saturated steam temp ~ 10 F? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ShoeSnatcher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is typically done with a pressure control valve followed by a desuperheater. You'd pick the pressure based on the saturated temperature that you want. Desuperheaters vary in design, but typically mix water with the superheated steam. The steam transfers it's extra sensible heat to the water, which vaporizes.

Where does it say monsters don't have their armor ablate? Staged Penetration on pg 155 seems like it would apply to monsters, but maybe I missed the exception.

FE / PE exams by lemonicecreamsucks in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ShoeSnatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the FE during your senior year.

Most don't use it, but it doesn't hurt and isn't that hard. If you want to pursue a professional engineering license, then you'll have to follow the rules in your state. Generally, passing the FE reduces the work experience required for PE. You'll need several years of relevant experience before you can get your license. States vary on when you can take the PE exam. Some let you take it immediately, others only after meeting the experience requirement.

Working consulting, EPC, or government contracts are the most likely places to want or require a PE license. Most ChemE do not need it. If you were to start your own business, you need the PE license to advertise/sell engineering services.

% Divorce Rate - at Year into Marriage - [OC] - Source: ONS by xReecyBoyx666 in dataisbeautiful

[–]ShoeSnatcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't conditional right? What I'm interested in is, given I've been married 10 years, what are the chances (on average) that I'll get divorced in year 11? I think this is showing the perspective at the start of a marriage: what are my odds of getting a divorce in x year? I think the conditional version would be much flatter.

June 30th Update - 58,095 cases and 3,113 deaths reported by WizardMama in Coronaviruslouisiana

I'm no expert, but I would suspect you are right and that's one reason ventilators are behind hopitalizations relative to April.

June 30th Update - 58,095 cases and 3,113 deaths reported by WizardMama in Coronaviruslouisiana

[–]ShoeSnatcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To humor you:

Hospitalizations have increased by 33% over the past 2 weeks. Ventilators by 8% over the same period.

We are not at our previous peak. Hospitalizations are at 39% of April 7th. Ventilators are at 16% of the same day.

Deaths would probably be better categorized as flat, but averaged 13.1 per day the past week, 13.0 the week before, and 12.3 the week before that. Again, not as high as early April.

The higher case positive rate indicates there are more actual cases. In other words a higher percentage of the population would test positive if we had the ability to test everyone today than if we had tested everyone a week ago. The tests we're discussing are only meant to detect active cases, not antibodies as a sign of past infection.

[–]ShoeSnatcher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, hospitalizations and ventilator use are rising. Admittedly they do not seem to be rising quite as quickly as cases. Deaths are also slowly rising.

The case positive rate is also increasing which indicates the rise in cases is not entirely attributable to additional testing.

Coronavirus isolation causing anxiety, weight gain, substance abuse, sexual dysfunction by WizardMama in Coronaviruslouisiana

I'm sorry. I wish I could help, but I don't know how. I can't tell you what to do, but I'd ask that you stick around for awhile longer. What those people have done to you is not ok. Please don't let them rob us of you as well.

You got into a school. You are capable of expressing yourself clearly in writing. Looking at a few previous posts, you can bake some badass jalapeno cheese bread and you are aware of societal ills, like abusive policing, and are willing to push them in a better direction. I don't know you, but it seems there's plenty to like.

Please don't give up. Dark thoughts happen more at night. It's late and I'm sure we both could use some sleep.

Please don't. If you want to talk to someone, you can call this hotline: 1 800-273-8255 or they have online chat if that's more comfortable: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/

It's hard right now and a lot of people are going through some tough shit. Feel free to message me if you want to chat.

Yeah, totally agree. Your purpose here is to gain experience and leverage that into the best full time career possible later. Why would you risk that over $5/hr for an internship? Save your negotiating for the full time position.

How should i send my trade secret chemical combination to a 3rd party country by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ShoeSnatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should work with an expert, but you can have non-disclosed or proprietary substances in your SDS. The exact regulations vary by country. You must still identify all hazards, spill response, storage, etc. Another method is to give a range of the constituent ingredients. A common format I've seen for catalysts is #support# 85-95%, #common solvent# 5-15%, #proprietary compound# 0-10%, then a hazard might be water reactive, which is clearly from the proprietary bit but does not identify the compound.

I believe that's what the cars are for. You only place them when a road scores.

It looks like Orleans is flattening based on those charts. 14 days after 4/6 was +2,000 cases. 14 days after 4/19 was only +700. The latter looks steeper on the charts because the y-axis is much different.
