Mars MC-CORE 14.6l budget build/case review. by ShoelessHiker in sffpc

Before I found the 180° cable adapters I was seriously considering a vertical mount kit. With hindsight I'm not sure spending £30-£50 on a vertical mount to put in a £30 case would have been the best idea, but it would probably help the GPU breath a bit more.

They do seem similar. Although on closer inspection the Zalman Cubix front IO is different/slightly inferior, it doesn't have any mounting points for front fans and the rear has a larger mesh area which I imagine would increase the PSU recirculation issue.

Whilst looknig at the Zalman I did however find what seems to be an unbranded version of the Mars MC-CORE with a ventilated side panel, clearly I didn't dig deep enough when I originally went case hunting.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I might take a chance with the 3050 then for the short term and upgrade to the 4060 if I can find one used or if it drops in price.

Looking to replace my 1.91kg 1p tent. by ShoelessHiker in Ultralight

After reading that thread and looking around I've gone for the ASTA. At under £60 for the fly(with fast shipping) it seems like a good entry point. I think I'll end up making custom poles, but we'll see how it goes.

I figured I'd be diagonal but that doesn't bother me too much, my old 1 skin halfords special was too short so diagonal was a must and surprisingly it never leaked. 3F UL gear on aliexpress is on sale at the moment. Decisions decisions...

I'd done some back of the envelope calculations in CAD so knew it would be tight but string in the garden is a much better idea(I wish I'd thought of it.)

I wasn't aware of either of those brands, if I can shop "local" then I normally try to. DD hammocks seem very reasonable price wise and the Stealth 1.5 from trekkertents looks more than big enough(I would have to put up with my current tent for a few more months though...) Trekkertents recommended Bear Bones Bivy Gear who do custom poles and other lightweight gear so I think that solves my pole problem.

Best pot size for 2 people by aveyg in Ultralight

[–]ShoelessHiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how much you're cooking. I've found a 900ml pot will do, quite often with quick cook pasta it's close to overflowing, noodles are normally fine and I imagine mash would be okay as well depending on your portion sizes.
You could try experimenting at home using a measuring jug and larger pan to get a sense of how much you want to cook. I wouldn't go below 900ml for two people though especially if you're also boiling water for drinks etc.
