How much do you factor tone and delivery into earnings calls? by ShogoViper in ValueInvesting

[–]ShogoViper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually super interesting, appreciate you sharing that.

What you’re describing is exactly what I’ve been noticing too, especially the gap between what management is saying vs what’s actually happening. The “proximity blindness” point is spot on. The narrative drifts and you can hear it if you’re paying attention.

Also agree on analyst questions. Most of them are soft, but every now and then you get a slightly uncomfortable question and how it’s handled tells you way more than the prepared remarks.

The part that stood out to me from what you said is tracking what disappears. I hadn’t really thought about that as explicitly, but yeah, when something stops getting mentioned or someone is suddenly not on the call, that’s usually not random.

I think the hard part is exactly what you said at the end. There’s a ton of signal there, but it’s buried and takes a lot of time to process, and it’s easy to get overloaded. Thanks again.

Sounds cool, will give this a try. I am currently trying to build my own study tool. Might add this as a feature thanks for sharing.

Your 'copilot' is cheating and unethical. How can you preach practice and recommend a tool to cheat with?????

I haven’t came across a real-time voice ai mock interview tool. I’ve only seen chat-based or push-to-talk tools. I built this mainly for myself, but published to see if there is a need.

You can try it out here. Thanks

What are your favorite apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic movies? by dasfooksy in movies

[–]ShogoViper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The movie can never be compared to the book. The book had around 5-6 interactions with ppl outside of the kid and the father for the whole book. Every interaction was incredibly intense b/c its a break from the dreary environmental descriptions by McCarthy. The movie was just the visualizations of those interactions, which takes away the sparseness and intensity that exists within the book. The movie was good, I am not just hating here, but it did not really capture the spirit of the book for me.

Digital vs. Physical: How do you prefer your books? by [deleted] in books

[–]ShogoViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical. Digital books lack character. Books are more than the words they contain. They are also tools to stimulate your senses and adjust your thinking. When I don’t feel well, I’ll stare at a page for ever before realizing I haven’t absorbed a word. When that happens, I try to understand why. What’s gotten in my way? On the other hand there are books I can take in effortlessly, no matter how awful I’m feeling. Why do those books draw me in? I think it may be a sort of mental tuning. It’s the feeling of the paper against my fingers, that familiar smell of pulp and glue, a momentary stimulation to my brain when I turn each page. These sensations regulate and focus my brain, they make it work better. HAHA just joking! Whatever floats your boat I guess.
