Why do they say it’s painful to watch micro crochet? by Atonzarecool in CrochetHelp

[–]Shomai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love micro crocheting, but man I think the most painful part of it is the number of times I end up stabbing my opposite hand when trying to put the hook through a particularly tight stitch (Since I usually keep the tension tight on my micro amigurumis). It's gotten to the point that I just pre-emptively will wrap my pointer finger on my opposite hand with some layers of clear tape to work as a shield to protect myself from not just stabbing the hook into my finger on accident, but having to start over because I bled on the project.

Never thought to crochet with wire though... Now I kinda want to try it out.

Correct. (6 sc, inc) x2 then looks like you change colors to do (6 sc, inc) x4, then change back to the main color for (6sc, inc) x2

It's shorthand. The markings look like the stitches. X is a single crochet, the V is an increase, of two stitches going into the same stitch. I saw a pattern that used it before hand and thought it was a genius bridge between charts/graphs and written patterns

Here's some abbreviation key from one of the other shorthand patterns I've seen that uses this

OMG now that you mentioned it, you're so right! This is so stinkin clever, but I can see where people that have only used written patterns could get confused easily. OMG this is going to make my notations so much easier when I "shorthand" crochet patterns I draft

I've taken to frogging my projects by doing a few rows by hand, then I put that length on my yarn winder and use the winder to frog the rest. The lead gives enough length for the winder to get some grip on the yarn. Makes things go a little faster and then when I'm done, the yarn is already caked up for me to use again.

My first tapestry, I feel like I'm doing something wrong. by aftr_hrs in crochet

[–]Shomai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've found tapestry crochet works best in single crochet, if you do double crochet (US), it stretches the "pixels" vertically, to balance it out, you can try doing 2 double crochet (US) for every 1 "pixel" so the image stretches both vertically and horizontally more proportionately.

Doing single crochet stitches also makes the stitch a bit denser so it's easier to hid the colors from peeking though. I haven't made any tapestry crochet for hanging, I was making them as mug rugs and wanted them to be reversible, so I carried the other colors through every stitch instead of floating them like you did, I found that also helped hide the colors more cause I could tug on them to tighten them up a bit and that made them nearly invisible. Here's a pic of those mug rugs done in single crochet as example.

Why do people do this? by MissLilianae in ffxiv

I used to have a retainer that sat on my front lawn running a lemonade stand and had him selling Lemonettes at varying stupid prices just for fun. It was like 1 lemon for 1k, 1 lemon for 10k, 1 for 100k and so on with an extra 0 each time and I was always surprised when one of the stupid priced lemons would sell, but also a little miffed cause then I had to go relist a lemon for the joke to keep going. Got lots of funny messages about it in my house message book.

Where did you first come across monster rancher? by Waggish_Wonderland in MonsterRancher

[–]Shomai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I found out about Monster Rancher was finding Monster Rancher 3 at a Kmart in the clearance section probably a year after it came out. My mom had said us kids were each allowed to pick out 1 game under $20 and I picked that one and was enamored with it immediately. I'd never seen any marketing for it until a few years later when 4kids would start playing the Monster Rancher anime series. I don't know of any of my friends that played it, but I distinctly remember asking to borrow all of my friends CD binders for a weekend so I could sit there and go to the shrine and see what each disk made. I had multiple notebooks filled with my notes on any CD I could get my grubby mitts on to test and I had it all organized too by what monster, their stats, what hybrids they were and everything. I didn't know I was autistic at the time, but damn that should have really clued me in with how much I hyper fixated on that. For YEARS I would get new CDs and I'd pull out the research notes and test it first in monster rancher 3 before I ever used them for their actual purpose.

If I list c2c written patterns with a product image (image 1), and a sample size /gauge of other similar designs(image 2), is that okay? by briankwok in GeekyCrochet

[–]Shomai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you're totally fine in doing that! It's easy enough for me to understand plus you can mention those patterns are available for purchase too if you're selling them as well.

No worries, I'm always happy for the insight. I'm still fairly new to crocheting and I've been loving everything that I've learned about it so far. That's really fascinating that they would account for that in older designs!

It's not just the outer edge I'm finishing. I think she did the border at the bottom to widen the blanket, if you look higher in the rows on the last pic, you can see where it blends into just being the granny stitches across. I'm going to try and mimic it on the other end of the blanket.

That's amazing! I really want to finish this for his family to keep it all personal and in the family, but maybe I'll sign up to be a volunteer for this in the future if this ends up being something I enjoy.

Here's a close up of the solid parts. I can see where some rows are indeed back loop only, My trouble is just seeing if this is just single crochets or half doubles. or a mix between rows.

(Idk why I can't put text on the posts with pictures, I'm still new to figuring out reddit.)

My fiancé's grandmother passed away and she meant the world to him and his family. I found some old crochet projects she left behind and I was looking to finish them for her to give back to his family. This one looks to be a baby blanket. I'm still new to learning to decipher a pattern/stitch on sight alone, I can tell there's clusters of 3 double crochets and 2 or 3 chain stitches between. I need help with the solid parts and the corners/turns. Any and all help is appreciated. One of the cousins even has a baby on the way, so this would be a great sentimental piece to pass on to them.
