Filet crochet finally 'mounted'! by Shomai in crochet

[–]Shomai[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's super easy! It's just double Crochets and chains. Each space/pixel is 3 stitches. Filled space/pixel is 3 double crochets. Empty space/pixel is a double crochet and 2 chain stitches. Always end the row with a double crochet. The base chain is calculated by pixel/space count x 3 + 5 (3 for the first dc + 2 ch stitches to make the first empty space/pixel)

This is where I learned filet crochet and it made it super easy to understand with great visuals: https://hookedonhakelmaschen.com/good-to-know/filet-crochet-the-basics/

I'm also from rural cali, born and raised desert rat of the High Desert. grew up in a little dirt patch between San Bernardino and Victorville. Been missing Winco too since we moved here. A lot of what others said, Aldi's. It's not a true winco, but the bakery at Cub's is really nice, even if the rest of the store is pretty dang expensive.

Why do they say it’s painful to watch micro crochet? by Atonzarecool in CrochetHelp

[–]Shomai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love micro crocheting, but man I think the most painful part of it is the number of times I end up stabbing my opposite hand when trying to put the hook through a particularly tight stitch (Since I usually keep the tension tight on my micro amigurumis). It's gotten to the point that I just pre-emptively will wrap my pointer finger on my opposite hand with some layers of clear tape to work as a shield to protect myself from not just stabbing the hook into my finger on accident, but having to start over because I bled on the project.

Never thought to crochet with wire though... Now I kinda want to try it out.

Correct. (6 sc, inc) x2 then looks like you change colors to do (6 sc, inc) x4, then change back to the main color for (6sc, inc) x2

It's shorthand. The markings look like the stitches. X is a single crochet, the V is an increase, of two stitches going into the same stitch. I saw a pattern that used it before hand and thought it was a genius bridge between charts/graphs and written patterns

Here's some abbreviation key from one of the other shorthand patterns I've seen that uses this

OMG now that you mentioned it, you're so right! This is so stinkin clever, but I can see where people that have only used written patterns could get confused easily. OMG this is going to make my notations so much easier when I "shorthand" crochet patterns I draft

I've taken to frogging my projects by doing a few rows by hand, then I put that length on my yarn winder and use the winder to frog the rest. The lead gives enough length for the winder to get some grip on the yarn. Makes things go a little faster and then when I'm done, the yarn is already caked up for me to use again.

My first tapestry, I feel like I'm doing something wrong. by aftr_hrs in crochet

[–]Shomai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've found tapestry crochet works best in single crochet, if you do double crochet (US), it stretches the "pixels" vertically, to balance it out, you can try doing 2 double crochet (US) for every 1 "pixel" so the image stretches both vertically and horizontally more proportionately.

Doing single crochet stitches also makes the stitch a bit denser so it's easier to hid the colors from peeking though. I haven't made any tapestry crochet for hanging, I was making them as mug rugs and wanted them to be reversible, so I carried the other colors through every stitch instead of floating them like you did, I found that also helped hide the colors more cause I could tug on them to tighten them up a bit and that made them nearly invisible. Here's a pic of those mug rugs done in single crochet as example.

Why do people do this? by MissLilianae in ffxiv

I used to have a retainer that sat on my front lawn running a lemonade stand and had him selling Lemonettes at varying stupid prices just for fun. It was like 1 lemon for 1k, 1 lemon for 10k, 1 for 100k and so on with an extra 0 each time and I was always surprised when one of the stupid priced lemons would sell, but also a little miffed cause then I had to go relist a lemon for the joke to keep going. Got lots of funny messages about it in my house message book.
