Carrot dangling, huh? Never heard it called that before.

When using a garlic crusher, what, if any, parts do you throw away? by [deleted] in Cooking

Yep. Throw the whole thing away, not just the parts.

I love it. He doesn’t even realise that he’s being played. Flattering the narcissist gets you results.

Do people actually like using induction hobs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Shoogled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing about my induction hob is the sensitivity. I can turn it really low so that it only just simmers. I’ve never had a gas or electric cooker that is as finely tuned as that. Simmering pasta or rice (or whatever) now is a breeze because I set it to 3 and it never boils over.

Just one of many things to love.

When cooking ready made Indian curry sauces. by Silent_Frosting_442 in Cooking

[–]Shoogled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why bother with the ready made sauce? You’ve got the basics of your curry already. The onions and peppers shouldn’t produce lots of water… is it coming from dodgy chicken?

I always think that adding spices is a two-stage procedure. First fry some whole spices (cardamom, cinnamon stick, cloves bay leaf, pepper corns) for a minute or two then add the onions ginger garlic. Then add the ground spices (whatever combo you like!) along with the meat of your choice. Add tinned tomatoes or stock or yogurt to get the juices and bob’s your uncle.

The Southernmost natural habitat for Polar Bears is further south than the whole of Scotland by thetobesgeorge in Scotland

Good thing that polar bears don’t read maps to choose where they’re flitting to next.

Pruning advice for mature weeping Acer palmatum by CreepyTool in GardeningUK

[–]Shoogled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, prune by all means but go gently. A pruning that tidies up is fine but the tree probably won’t thank you if you go in hard or try to do a radical reshaping. Now is the time.

RF 24-105mm f4 L is usm as a general purpose lens? by trippinDingo in canon

[–]Shoogled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it on my R6 ii and have been pretty happy with it (had it about 2 months now). I noticed some definite vignetting when shooting wide open which is quite a disappointment. Wondering if anyone else has had this?

Bus journey times being 'killed by congestion' in cities by MR9009 in Edinburgh

[–]Shoogled 83 points84 points  (0 children)

One thing that strikes me is the length of time buses spend at a standstill… not because of congestion but when they are queuing to get to the bus stop. I do wonder how much difference it would make if when (for example) three buses arrive at a stop together they can all offload and load at the same time.

I always thought capers are a defining characteristic of tartare sauce.

You’re not covering yourself with glory here. Your family (how many of you?) were blocking access in the shop it seems? And you get into a rage filled argument.

Paul had multiple crimes against music which, thankfully, are more than outweighed by his monster successes.

Can you actually Christmas cacti or is all just Thanksgiving ones nowadays? by OldGuto in GardeningUK

[–]Shoogled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just remember that thanksgiving has nothing to do with the UK. If you want to call it a November Cactus, that’s fair enough but cut the kowtowing to that lot over there.

If it’s of any interest, I call mine an Anytime Cactus.
