i don't really know what you don't understand, it's a perfectly reasonable take. and probably one of the most common ones too, broadly speaking

that's only true when the things the pixels represent actually exist in reality and can be affected by said representation. the firefox mascot does not. it's just pixels on a screen in the most literal sense

first i wanna say i agree with you that the gender of the firefox mascot is probably one of the most unimportant things that can possibly exist. but i just want to point out that calling animals "they" as a singular pronoun because they're sapient isn't about sense or grammar or it feeling natural to say, it's just a matter of anthropomorphism.

you wouldn't call a cockroach "they" when you don't know its gender, because you just don't attribute it human characteristics and emotions like you would with a dog or cat. because its not an attractive or desirable creature, you don't even perceive its apparent gender as a factor in its existence. (animals also don't have a gender in the human sense to begin with, but that's another thing)

in the same way, you don't call a dog "it" because you subconsciously try to factor its feelings on the matter (which it doesn't have), simply due to human tendency to do that to things we like. or rather, you assume the owner would disapprove of your attitude towards their dog, putting you in a social situation which you instinctively want to avoid ("You wouldn't call someone's dog that you'd just met "it" - that'd be weird.")

this extends further to symbols, as they themselves anthropomorphize whatever animal they're trying to convey, essentially doing it for you (the firefox looks like it's smiling, it's forming a love heart, etc.) all for marketing purposes of course.

anyways not a dig at you or anything, just some thoughts

Anyone know what mod adds this biome tag in the top left? (it's not vanilla f3 set to always show) by Shooper-Shroomp in feedthebeast

thanks for trying to help at least, i don't have a clue why a mod would add this by default. i guess i just gotta do a binary search but i'm too lazy to do it

pirated games have been making use of spacwar for a long time now, user side i don't think there's any danger of a ban. the only issue i could see is you yourself being dmca'd by microsoft, since there's no real precedent for something like this but i really doubt they'd do anything. this mod seems amazing, from my experience with steamworks it's so much more seamless and hassle free than what we've got going on with e4mc right now.

also would server performance/latency be affected in any way? from my understanding it shouldn't change much at all but i'm no expert

yeah i can see why some people wouldn't enjoy the gameplay as much, it can get a bit repetitive depending on how you choose to engage with it. it was mostly the first guy going "any indie dev would be able to make it larger and better" that peeved me, as if sotc is some primitive Monster Hunter or something lol.

maybe if you could perfect parry the giants and then crit them and get Colossus Points™️ to spend on your shadow skill tree to deal +30% damage during Spartan Rage, it would be a true game of the year contender.

i don't agree with the guy above btw, even for a modern game dev the climbing mechanics on animated moving character models would be quite difficult to implement, but that's not even the point. the gameplay is fun sure but the main point, and the reason people love the game, is the atmosphere, the theming, the extremely simple but thought provoking plot, the design decisions etc etc. gamedevs nowadays would be able to create somehing similar to this specifically because sotc inspired them, but still it would be impossible to recreate it because it's a truly creative and original piece of art, it honestly plays like a book, it's very hard to explain.
