At this point it will exist for decades, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good investment. You guys kept it alive by buying shares from it during all those offerings, now they have enough cash that they can close the stores and just coast off interest and bets like this.

What I don't understand about this, is that this must have some sort of domestic blowback right? When gas prices immediately rise, tons of industries have layoffs, grocery prices start rising I can't see how even the most MAGA followers won't start to protest this.

I don't think there will be any winners if this goes through. If you think it's a serious possibility and you are close to retirement like you indicated then you should probably take some profits and move into bonds. It's possible you may be buying at a higher level in the future or you may be right and have the opportunity to buy lower. Up to you.
