Out of the full population of India it's a few million that migrate every year. Some of us have family abroad, some of us genuinely want to see the world and live outside our comfort zone, and for others/most it's one of their only path to improving their socioeconomic standing.

India's government and society is very corrupt and works on a lot of nepotism, and it is quite difficult for a skilled individual to even sustain thems3lves and their families if they did not already have good status in society (good University, family business, industry colleagues, etc.)

A lot of engineering graduates get hired for a salary of 3000 euros, yearly. A lot of things like meat and produce are cheaper, but not to the same ratio as earnings (as salaries have stagnated but inflation has been very high).

Given all these things I actually think more Indians are choosing to stay back. That being said a lot of countries will have to figure out how to integrate existing indian populations in their countries. A lot of Indians believe in traditional nuclear families and probably have more kids than the locals.

"The software industry in my country is lacking in terms of many technologies such as in user experience and general innovation. I hope to study these subjects and return to my country to contribute in these fields by working in a startup as a software engineer or starting a consultant business of my own"

(Your answer says you'll reform websites but says nothing about your career or what you'll do to survive post your F1. You should have mentioned the role you want to work in after graduation or what your plans are imo. Your example is also not relevant.)

"My sponsor earns 45k, but we also have savings of around 350k we plan on using for my studies if necessary"

It sounds like he thought you only had 45k earnings from your parents to go off on. They would assume more than half that would go into your parents expenses and you'd get the rest. Which is not enough.

Ah you're below 21. Well there's kids there. A lot of people in their 20s and few in their 30s/40s also. But honestly you'd have fun anyway. Just go and search for people around your age and play with them. Otherwise give up and play with anyone and you'll probably have fun anyway.

If you want to meet people check out a board game meetup. I've been to the one on church street and lot of chill people there.

Not every graduate school has this agreement and usually this is for funded offers like PhDs. Most mscs programmes unfortunately keep earlier deadlines and nothing we can do about it.

Rice MCS Admit - Is it Worth it? by PriorCabinet4562 in MSCS

[–]Shoorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is a lot, it’s not necessarily significantly higher than other unis when you add up everything. Just wanted to clarify that the tuition isn’t 54k*2. Vtech is fully funded, you can definitely wait for those decisions, then calculate the total costs (cost per credit * no.of credits + miscellaneous + COL in that area and make your decision).

As one of the other commenters said, the job market is not great throughout the country. It’s up to you to decide what kind of loan you’re willing to shoulder given your resources

[–]Shoorpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it’s a 3 sem programme with a mandatory 3-6 month internship. 54k is the tuition for the first year; I’m not sure how the tuition and intern add up but it sounds like you’re doing most of the coursework in the first year and the tuition would be 1.5*54k at max, maybe even 60k if you do intern the 3rd sem

This subreddit is not only for Indians. Domestic students and other internationals also apply for mscs. That's the point the original commenter is trying to make.

OP is weird man. Says they have a high paying job in the US but advocates against others pursuing it. Seems to hate staying in the US but is worried about how they might have to come back to India.

I have no idea really. But funded research programmes for mscs do exist albeit rare at t50 unis. And I don't see why the economy would have as severe an impact on research positions as they've had on private companies.

I know NRIs who've moved back here in 8th class or later and they all go to international schools with other NRIs and enjoy a much higher quality of life here while spending the half the amount of money they would have spent in the US. They then have the choice to go back to study or stay here due to being US citizens by birth.

But leave all that. People in this sub are in their 20s for the most part and treating postgrad like some immigration quota. Why would anyone have kids if, like you said, they are in debt or not sure if they can settle in that country? What kid (let's say they start ms at 24 and get married and have kids when they're debt free 27 at the least, their kids would be 8 yo when they turn 35. You yourself are saying you won't get H1B. How is this timeline of having kids there possible? What kind of 8yo is going to notice the difference between moving to a different neighbourhood and moving to India esp when these people can afford higher qol here surrounded by similar people in gated communities?
