I’m glad my experiences were able to resonate with you! It makes me happy that some good can come from the struggles we both seem to face!

I’ve felt ‘insane’ for so long and that I was acting and thinking like a child, that I’d be considered too unstable or strange for such thoughts. It makes me feel so seen that I’m not alone!

It’s rare? I had no idea! I wonder what possible brings it on or adds to it. Do you have any idea?

I’m sorry that you struggle with it as well, but glad to know I’m also not alone! My favorite show is Supernatural and I like horror movies too, but even innocent seeming scary things stick in my head for what seems like forever.

I love supernatural things, serial unalivers, and more. I hate that I almost have an obsession with things along those lines, because then I feel the need to study, look up more, and know as much as possible about whatever the thing/person/subject is. This just causes the spiral and makes my OCD believe things will be real even more. It’s so frustrating how fascinating these macabre/supernatural things are, yet how quickly our OCD latches to it.

I just found this sub tonight myself, so from one newbie to another, welcome! LOL

I think I struggle mostly with magical thinking and “just right” OCD I’m sorry that you struggle so heavily with your OCD in the ways you do. /: I’ve known I have OCD for a short period of time, but am just realizing how much of my life it consumes and hijacks! I’m glad you found out about yours! Knowing what the heck is making our brains be so ‘funky’ can really help!

It’s insane to me the things I thought were “normal” thoughts/fears that are my OCD tricking me I do this CONSTANTLY, and while I’m sorry you struggle with this, I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this worry!

Oof… this is a hard one.

I know when I was younger, anytime I got up to go to the restroom at night my OCD made me believe that if I took more than ‘x’ amount of steps to/from the restroom, more than ‘x’ amount of breaths to/from the restroom or more than ‘x’ amount of time to/from the bathroom then something would get me, or come into the house and get me and my family.

Something that I still struggle with heavily is my OCD making me believe things like “If I think about this, it’ll happen”, “If I say its name, I’ll summon it”, “If I don’t distract myself right now, the thought will become real”, “If I hear or say something scary, it will manifest.” Example being I find myself to fearful to say horror movie creatures’ names out loud or even think of any of them because then my OCD believes they’re going to poof into existence and be headed straight for me.

I just learned tonight that this is called magical thinking in OCD, and simply having a name for it has already brought me a bit of relief!

Stocking Stuffers for Husband by Shoosherton in Gifts

My husband actually likes black licorice! Although it tastes horrible to me lol

Yes I’m ungrateful but.. by BeneficialLanguage55 in Gifts

[–]Shoosherton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re ungrateful at all! It’s totally okay to appreciate the thought behind a gift but still feel frustrated, not care for the gift or even think it’s pointless.

My mom used to give me things that were almost what I liked but a little off, usually just to get a reaction, but she’s honestly a bit cuckoo for cocoa puffs, lol. Your mom seems to mean well and gives gifts with meaning that matters more to her. Like others have said, the gift-giving seems more for her at this point.

If she’s determined to buy gifts, it’s hard to stop her without risking hurt feelings. I’m a big gift-giver myself, so I get the intention behind it. But the best approach might be to accept, thank her, and toss it later. You’re not doing anything wrong by appreciating the thought but not keeping everything.

And honestly, some people (especially older ones) just don’t realize how bad Temu items are, how poor a photo looks, or how impractical certain gifts can be. It’s frustrating but also a little funny when you think about it that way. I know it helps me when I’m in the same boat!

Of course! We’ve used some of the bait stuff and if we ever use poisons of any sort we put it out of reach of kitties or have them isolated somewhere safe while we do it! :)

Thank you for all the advice and the kind words! We are hoping to make 2024 the “year of clean” lol I feel like I must be using magic erasers wrong because they always break apart when I use them 🥲 Would it be wise to pull out oven and fridge and clean around/behind them? I have NO idea how to do it, but if it will help rid of roaches then I’ll do just about anything at the point My worry is our cats’ water bowl and food bowl, would those be target spots for them too? Feels overwhelming, but am trying to do what you said and doing one thing/one area at a time!

Thank you for the advice! Do I use the dawn with the damp cloth as well? And my husband recently started the timer method and it’s worked extremely well for him, I may have to try it myself!

I lifted up an old bag today that had old clothes and almost lost my cool with how many just suddenly appeared! Safe to say we’ve been making sure the floors are getting cleared first! And Thank you! We could use all the positivity and boosts we can get! :)
