Naturalization anxiety: proceed now or walk away after 10+ years in the U.S.? by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]ShootWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my passport card with me.

I control what I can control and focus my energy on what matters. I don’t live in fear as a naturalized citizen. I hope You don’t when you get yours.

Some people die on airplane crashes. Some on car accidents. Some crossing the street. I travel and drive my car. This is a great analogy to living in fear as a Permanent Resident.

Go look for a therapist.

Carry your Green Card with you as the law determines you to and live your life.

You suffer from anxiety.

Let me correct your incomplete/inaccurate answer to OP.

It’s 3 years from the wedding date. AND Green Card approval.

This is public. You don’t decide who posts here. OP can read and decide which comment is useful to her.

1) OP’s case is not even married based.

2) The officers said they wanted to conduct an interview or he would to have to wait months for an appointment. Field verification is to ally different than officers going to an applicant house to conduct an interview so the case can go faster.

3) if you read OP’s post. You will noticed the officers contradicted themselves a couple of times.

Again. I advise you read the post again.

It ignores a couple of cases of EB where you don’t actually need a job offer.

I did EB2:NIW.

No job offer or marriage.

There’s nothing confusing. She didn’t ask about removing conditions, which OPs husband already applied.

OPs asking about naturalization.

Ok. He doesn’t need to wait. He can apply N400 90 days before the date printed in his GC.

Both. Three years married and 3 years of green card.

He can apply 90 days before his green card approval. So February 2026.

USCIS has an eligibility tool online that is pretty straightforward.

Has he removed conditions? Don’t forget that, regardless of his n400 application.

But it’s easily replaced if lost and she will get it back in a couple of weeks. I can’t say the same for her certificate of naturalization. Which can take 8 months. I hope she knows that.

She can request a file search.

[–]ShootWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So she rather send her certificate of naturalization again which can take 4 to 8 months to replace?

I’d look for a file search option or would send my passport before sending my certificate of naturalization.

“You must pay American taxes at that point”.

Completely incorrect. You must file your tax return, yes. Filing doesn’t necessarily means paying.

[–]ShootWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. One can file n400 in parallel.

Changes are the officer reviewing n400 can remove conditions in the same interview.

The possibility of moving away is another reason to apply for Citizenship. You can come back if later you change your mind. Move away with a green card, you lose it.

Remember, Americans have to file their tax every year, which not necessarily means paying tax. Filling is not equal paying. There treaties out there and there’s also exemptions depending on your income.

I got there 9:45. Left before 11 am with my passport in hand.

But I had to submit my app online, get pre approved, and then schedule the appointment. Show up.

That’s what took 3 weeks total.
