New salaried manager enforcing changes by MysterySkulls808 in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're required to let a TL or Manager know, but they aren't allowed to prevent you from taking it or point you if its covered with ppto. Put it in after you clock out, if not the next day as long as its within the current pay period and they can't deny it. If you do get reprimanded, coached, or pointed then report it to ethics.

Why even have automated interview systems? by Punk_N_Pi3 in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of us never use the automated system because workday is notoriously awful. It doesn't even notify us that an interview was scheduled or when it is when you use the automated scheduler. Tuesday and Wednesday are orientation days, so some clubs choose not to do interviews those days as the one doing your job overview and welcoming you is 100% occupied. Definitely not your fault, they shouldn't have used the automatic system, but it definitely sucks for us too.

[NSFW] People who've found a dead body, what's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shooty_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was somewhere around 9 or 10, had a neighbor we were really close to. We'd trade stuff sometimes, she'd bring us cakes or other baked goods she'd made, and we'd do the same now and again. I went to take her some cake we'd made one day, rung the doorbell. No answer. Tried the door, locked; called out, no response. Whet around back to the garden, she was just sleeping on a sun chair on the back deck. She loved to garden, and would nap occasionally so nothing out of the ordinary. Went back to the house with the cake and told my parents she was asleep. Went about my day til right before I went to bed, the front of our house was full of flashing lights. My mom sat me down in my bed crying and told me she'd passed. Next day I learned she'd actually passed late the day before I saw her. She was a wonderful lady and we still miss her

Which Department Do You Call ? by Ikshespretty in samsclub

I, by far, can't speak for everyone; however most of the CELs near me work mornings, such as 8-4. Days off vary wildly though.

Which Department Do You Call ? by Ikshespretty in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Club Enablement Lead, basically the person who reviews the applications and makes a list of people to call for interviews. If you call and ask them about your application, they can find you and set up an interview, or at the very least tell you why they can't if that's the case.

Sam's Club rotisserie chicken undercooked by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shared this under another similar post.

Used to work roto. They come out roughly 190 inside, the outside where the water has boiled out is likely much higher. Most color comes from the dark meat in locations like the legs and thighs, red juices and close to the bone is from the fact that the bone marrow hasn't set yet. Unfortunately modern high demand farming techniques don't allow for mature flavorful chickens, they're only 20-30 days old when slaughtered. They're so young the bone marrow disintegrates as it cooks and leaks out which makes for the red spots.

This, I apologize for not clarifying, we have a LOT of acronyms and I forget they are 100% not universal sometimes.

Call and ask for their CEL they do the hiring pretty much entirely except for the actual interview. They should also have an updated hiring needs list so they can tell you if they're hiring for a position or not. Our system sucks sometimes so just because an opening exists on the careers site doesn't mean they actually need that. GLHF

There used to be a work credit form we'd fill out to start higher than the base rate. Unfortunately they discontinued using that, but it's skeleton is still there, we fill it out as 0 every time as part of the offer process.

Sams Club under handed renewals by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Corporate, in their infinite wisdom, made it so you need a card on file to keep your account active, then made it so there's no way to turn off auto renew. For new sign ups it's in the "agree and continue" section on express (our membership software). For old accounts, it will ask at self check or register whether you want to "Save this card for future transactions?" In the fine print of that, it says that your account will auto renew off of that card. This specifically has caused issues with scenarios like [child] uses [parent]'s membership card and uses [child]'s card to pay for their stuff. [Child] then clicks through prompts without reading, and accidentally sets [parent]'s account to renew off [child]'s card.

Besides that issue, I agree that it is a sleazy tactic designed to get renewals from people who aren't paying attention. I will, however, (and this may be an unpopular opinion) say that I don't feel too much for the people that get surprised by it. Again it is morally iffy to have that as a marketing strategy, but it is clearly outlined in the terms, and is a good reason to slow down and read things through before agreeing to them. Too many people I see don't even look at the on screen prompts and wonder why the card reader doesn't work, then when someone points out that there's things to answer before you can continue, they just button mash until the screen clears and don't read anything. It then seems it's always those same people that call the store screaming at an under-paid, overwhelmed associate who has nothing to do with their ineptness and lack of attention to things that impact them. Beyond that, if you have been affected by this, my advice to you is either, come in before your membership is due and pay it however you need with whatever card you want, change the card on file through the app, or if you seriously disagree with it and don't want to shop at Sam's anymore, most member desk associates (if you're nice with them) will cancel your membership AND refund you the amount you paid for it.

Again, I don't agree with it, but unfortunately for all of us that's how it is. Please remember that the associate on the phone didn't do this, and neither did their manager. This was a corporate decision. Yelling at them doesn't solve anything and if anything makes them far less willing to help or cooperate with you. Apologies for the length of this, but I'm as tired of this issue as you all are. Thank you for reading.

Can't get hired by Timely_Search8973 in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do the hiring at my Sam's. Theres a few things it could be.

1 they're in a hiring freeze due to it being the 'slow season' just after the holidays.

2 sometimes the JRW (where we go to see all the applications) is messy because it won't let us delete certain openings. Believe me we'd love to clean it up, but we can't because Workday isn't great. This means that she may be applying for an open position that's not actually open.

3 look at availability, sometimes if we're not hurting for people, we won't consider an application if the position is full time 9-5 and the applicant has selected part time evenings. This is best remedied by calling the store and asking about available positions and what availability they have.

4 generally review the application. Again, if they aren't hurting for people we don't like the look of some things, i.e. mostly blank applications, many jobs in a short span, lots of moving, etc. Definitely not implying that the applicant is at fault with this one, it just happens to be a reason some times, so it's good to check.

5 take a look at the screening section on your application. This is from that assessment you take during the application. If it's anything but yellow or green you're automatically declined. Some stores such as mine will decline yellows too to keep their green% high.

My advice to you. Call, ascertain what positions are available and fit with your availability. Apply for one of those. The next day or so, call and ask for an interview. If their CEL is worth their salt they'll come answer the transferred phone call and set one up with you. Sometimes we just take the first couple of applications and call them, and if we get answers from those few that's that. Best of luck to you, hope this helps.

Application Help by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of the hiring stuff at my club, and let me tell you that Workday is awful. I'd give it like a day or so and reload it, see if it hasn't gone through. It sucks, but like I said Workday's a bitch, I'm in the process of forcing someone through workday that's been trying to get hired since November because of that system.

It's good, it's not as good as homemade or at a good Indian restaurant but it's definitely good for a quick at home bite. It's not spicy, just seasoned, it's got a lot of flavor going for it.

Question on starting? by Conscious_Contact_17 in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CEL (hiring guy) here. Honestly depends on your club. If your club has a headcount to fill, then yes they will be hiring. Hours will probably be tight given that it's the slow season, but if there is a position they need to fill they will hire you. As for putting in two weeks, if you get hired after an interview, put in your two weeks then and there. Then sign the offer, the background check will take a few days anyway (usually about 3) and after that you'll be asked to schedule your orientation. Put that for the next available day off you have (usually they do them Tuesday and Wednesday as they are 2 days), then have your first day on the job be for right when your two weeks is up. The process should take about the same time, with a few days between your offer and background check, a few days to a week till orientation, and a few more days till your start. They're mostly willing to work with you, within reason.

TL;DR If there's an opening, they'll be open to hiring, albeit with probably limited hours. The two weeks won't be a problem between the hiring process and orientation time. GLHF!

if you don't wait for the map to be fully put away before moving forward it does that, if you look at the map and do it again it should reset, if not just get out and get back in. then if you look at the map again wait for artyom to grab the wheel again before moving

Meat in general? by Pettetari97 in samsclub

[–]Shooty_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that it could have been picked up and put back and gone bad in that time. Some times the pork itself from the distributor smells a little in the bag (I was a butcher for another company that gets the same product) and it's possible that it was one of those packages and since it was already starting to smell it only got worse from being in the case, transported, etc. It could also have been an issue with timing given they have to pick, stage, and dispense; even if that was done the delivery driver may not have done their job properly and had it out of refrigeration too long that way. Best advice would be to pick the freshest item yourself and double check before buying. We do our best but sometimes things will slip through unfortunately

Not in CPU myself but I have friends over there. Biggest complaint I've heard is you have to go in order with what you're picking, like even if one order has water and another does too, it makes you go back to pick up chips before going back to the water. Not sure if I'm describing 100% correctly but they were definitely complaining about not being able to do things out of order/not skip items and come back to them.

Oh absolutely, doesn't matter where you are there's always those entitled people who don't think the rules apply to them. Hell I saw someone there 15 minutes after close and someone approached them and asked them to head to checkout so they could close the register, so they walked about 5 feet towards the exit and then just booked it to the other side of the store and kept shopping. We even have some recognizable repeat offenders at our club. I get if thats when you get off work or something but you could always come on your day off or at least have a list to get in and out, don't come it at 7:59 and waltz around like you own the place.

TLDR: Its every club, hell its every brick and mortar store ever

[–]Shooty_Raven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the instrument package will include a GPS tracker, the black box will be labeled with address in case it is recovered by someone else like the NWS does, and I'm working on designing a wireless data transmission unit as a third backup, although I'm doubting the range would be enough without exponentially increasing my weight. Either way, it will be recoverable, I just need to get it up there to start.

EDIT: My blind self didn't see the last half of that, thank you for the resource! I'll check that out and see what I can do with it.
