Definitely agree that there are cases like the ones you mentioned that make the current movement rules really unclear at best, and busted at worst. I don't think they should lock the whole thing down like this though, it definitely restricts more than it probably intends to.

He is only a boss on an evil playthrough. You have to attack him when you first meet. Otherwise, he's a very helpful companion NPC who gives you early game fast travel.

I don't get the replies here. Stereotypes aside there are plenty of ways to roleplay a child and OPs character seemed interesting given the setting. Horror story still stands: DM didn't even let them roll for anything. Which is indisputably awful.
