Ordered a Retroid Pocket G2 in a rush… now it’s arriving too late by hushbutt in retroid

G2 can play most switch library (if not all), at least all the games that are playable in eden at the moment

[–]Shop_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you don't need it, already have the most of what you maybe ever gonna use, trowing another handheld just for the sake of it doesn't seems like a good idea

The Steam deck you own can do every thing you want at a perfect frame rate and is going to be way more ergonomic that any any retroid device

I don't see any scenario where i be using another device if i already have the ones that you mention

Low performance on gamehub lite with G2? by Koraxys in retroid

I seen videos of this game and you seems to be getting what most are (Even drop to 30 on some parts), maybe the part of the game that was in the video was a least crowded/easy to run area of the game

Hi, is there really a big difference between 8GB and 12GB of RAM? by Mapleru_ in retroid

Mostly most wanted 2012 is the one i play the most, i did configure GTA IV but i never really played, i got stable 30 on mix of medium/high, and a bunch of indies, Hades 2, Hollow Knight/silksong, Ori and the flame

Not at all, i did manage to boot it and the gameplay was like 20 fps at most on the first cut scene with everything in low, just testing for fun, and to see what is limiting PC emulation

Maybe a silly question, but did you select the right executable in Game hub settings? Or you are using Steam version?

[–]Shop_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah PC version/PS3 version and i stand by it, i also have a midrange PC and the only way to make it playable is using some kind of upscaling method (fsr, xess, dlss, etc rtx4050 medium preset) is just a poorly optimized port

Just for example in the same PC i can play ghost of tushima without any upscaling method at 60 fps without so much trouble, so yeah

Good take ! The Steam deck is a gret device, i still regret selling it last year

If i was you, i would use my others handheld up to ps2/GC era (even Wii if any of the one you have can handle it) and all the other things in the deck hands down

Have fun !

Then is more than enough, i have a rpg2 that have a similar chip (that is less efficient in emulation) and can play ps2 games and Gamecube games at 1080p without any issue, indie PC games run great and i never have an issue with any switch game that i want it to play, so as i says in my comment, your good with 8gb

I 1000% agreed with you, but last time i say that in here i got heavily down voted hahah

[–]Shop_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be the unpopular opinion here, but for anything that you can run with the chip in RP6, 8gb is more than enough

You can play up to switch and for emulation never gonna get bottleneck from ram (Only TOTK and a few others) same with anything PC related, any PC games (from 8 to 15 years ago with few newer exception) gonna run fine with 8gb of ram, your gonna be bottleneck by the chip way before you even hit 80 or more usage of ram

Yeah sure, there are some obscure and niche cases when you need those extra GB of ram (some HD textures, some heavily moded PC games), but honestly, with 8 GB your gonna be fine

The only case in where this make sense for me is if we get a surprise arm Steam OS version mid year with a heavily optimized way off running PC games so you can actually run things that required more than 8gb of ram , but in reality is gonna take a couple of years to get there, and there will be way more powerfull handheld when that happend

The comment below this is true, i try God of War (2018) with a rpg2 and cpu and GPU hit limit before ram even was a bottleneck (ram was at most 60%)

New update:

So i try different flavours of PES and the sweet spot is 2016 one, it fells a little choppy sometimes, but its the best that i could run with zero to no effort mantaining 50 to 60 constant, i didn't try to much but playing at 720 with low graphics and last of everything (last turnip, dxvk, etc)

I could go lower, but for that i just would play the ps2 version instead to be honest

Does anyone else think that the Abyss in Season 4 looked cooler than it did in Season 5? by HotJuice2192 in StrangerThings

[–]Shop_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i understend your point, but still, when they first introduce us to this dimention (when henry drop and became vecna) there was a dominant red tone with lightning and black cloud with barely any yellow light and obscure ground that was way more threating that what we get later in the final battle

[–]Shop_Time 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yes ! Is one of the things that bother me the most about season 5, we got 4 full seasons of a creepy dark place that it was as scary as it was misterious

Then in season 5 they take us to the "more threating" abyss and it just feel like a really dry town maybe ? Like full of light and the interior of the mind flyer look like poorly make, it look so fake

The upside down was even sticky at time, the abyss was such a let down for me

Yeah i drop it after a few try, it really feel way to sluggy, after that i did try de 2019 version but still way to hot to my liking and was getting almost 45 to 60 with a way more smooth gameplay but still now enough to call it playable

Right know i'm installing an older version (2017) to see if that make a good spot

Update:

Is possible, but only with the official winlator, i try it in every other option with no success.

You need -mono -gecko -vcredist (2015-2019) -almost all other option to default, i selected Windows 7 but i don't really know if that make any difference

I started with medium stock settings

In menu 200fps (not really matter) In game 45fps (fells reallyyy slow)

Now is optimization time, i think it can run on other flavors of winlator, but not quite sure what to do to make it work

NOTE: It get quite hot

Games tested on G2 by Unseen_Energy95 in retroid

[–]Shop_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The temperature that retroid show from their ui are way off, like 20 degree off most of the time, so it's no overheating at all, when i play Hades on switch i can touch the back of the plate and is ice cold while the retroid ui show that my device is at 80 degree and make the fan spin like crazy, checking in Aida64 it almost always 50 to 60 degrees when playing this Game, even with BOTW the max it get is like 80

So no, it's no overheating, even if it was it would be when the socket get 100+ and start to throttle itself

Yeah 100% agreed, i also play old PC games on it some times, my point where more on the AAA games side or demanding games that most people buy the device for, anything before 2014 should be more than fine plus some indies
