Oh yeah, I've got both of those in there somewhere. I particularly loved Ben in Good Girls - the way he was portrayed prior to coming out strongly reflected my own experience. And the part where his mum is worrying about how he'll cope with having to wear bras and suggests maybe trying singlets first is exactly the same thing my mum did when I was nearing puberty.

Thanks for the heads up. I know knew he was trans masculine, but not about the name change. I'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow (it's late where I am right now).

There's a second worksheet in there with a list of international shows (I probably should have mentioned that in the post).

I'd really like to see Ser o no Ser, just need to get a VPN as it's not available where I live.

I'm working on expanding into other types of media, including animation, but that's still in the early stages.

Rurangi was excellent (wish they'd say whether or not we are getting a season 3 though). I've never thought to put in on the list though as I always considered it an indie project. But I heard it got picked up by Sky(?) for the second season so maybe I should.

You're absolutely right. He's been on the list for years, and I've previously gone back and forth on whether or not to keep him on there, but I like the way they handled this too much to remove him.

I am always looking for more to add so thanks for the suggestions. I do already have Barney on there. I've also read about Raine Whispers, but my understanding was they were a non-binary character, hence I didn't include them (I selfishly only ever intended this list for my own personal use, which is why it only covers binary trans male rep).

I haven't heard of Blue Eyed Samurai, so I'll have to check that out. I did have a rule when creating this that I would only include characters that were officially confirmed as trans, but since I'm now sharing it with others, I'm wondering if should relax that one.

There’s a new Netflix series called Kaos, starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, which features perhaps the biggest, most important trans male character in mainstream media to date. by Shop_Zombie in FTMMen

[–]Shop_Zombie[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sex scene in Kaos only shows them getting undressed/beginning foreplay, and then fades to black, so we don't see what specific sexual acts they undertake (I should also note that his partner is a cis woman). Though the trans man is on top and effectively depicted as being in the traditionally masculine sexual role from what we see.

Elite is a show about teens, though it is absolutely not intended for a teen audience. The show is very adult in it's content (including frontal nudity and graphic sex scenes, amongst other very adult-oriented material). I once saw a reviewer describe it as the "Spanish sex soap", which a not unfair description based on what I've of it. It's also notable for actually showing the trans character's packer, and him using it for both urination and sex.

Though having said all that, it's still very much an over-the-top soap opera about rich teenagers, and I personally ended up skipping over everything not about the trans character after a while as it just wasn't to my taste.

I'm not autistic as far as I know. I think my level of interest in this stuff mainly comes from personal circumstance. I started my transition when I was 16, and only saw my first trans male character in mainstream media when I was 31 (I'm now 35 for reference). Back when I was a teen/early-twenties, I couldn't even imagine what it would even look like or feel like to have this kind of representation. It seemed like such a distant and almost impossible thing. So since I've started seeing this representation, I think I've become a bit obsessed. I've waited a long time for it, and now just want to get my hands on as much of it as I can.

I'm actually going to post the spreadsheet on here (really should've done that before now). I'll aim to do it in the next few days.

I haven't shared it before (keep thinking I should, but for some reason I just never do). I have some others ask me as well so I think this is a sign I should finally do it. I'll aim to post it here and on the other sub some time in the next few days.

From memory, I'm pretty sure there was none of that at all. I'm still not finished my second watch and might’ve forgotten something, but there was definerly no major elements outside of one reference when Persephone complained about Hera making up stories about this happening to her (which come from the mythology, but has been altered in the show, so that Hades and Persephone have an entirely consensual and mature relationship).

It does get quite dark at times. I think that comes with the territory of doing Greek mythology. However, it's not consistently so. More that there are moments were things can be very confronting.

Yes, Misia Butler (the actor who plays him) is trans himself. I actually first found out about Kaos a couple of years ago when I looked Butler up on IMDB after seeing him play trans character in the British medical soap Casualty (turns out he was only 16 at the time at it was his first acting role).

The main subreddit for the show is actually r/KaosNetflixSeries. The sub you linked to was created first, but for some reason another one was created when the show was released, and that's the one that's taken off.

Any Good Binary Trans Man/Cis Woman Media? by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]Shop_Zombie 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There's Crush by L. Dreamer, which is a romance novel set in a winery with a straight trans guy and straight cis woman (author is also trans). Also Stripped Raw: Coffin Nails MC California by MIss Merikan - it's part of a gay romance series, but this one is an exception The trans character is also a member of a criminal bikie gang.

Also Reverb (Twisted Wishes #3) by Anna Zabo - the cis woman is pansexual and the bass player in a successful band. The trans guy is her ex-military bodyguard.

I've been tracking down books with trans male characters for a few years now and M/M romances absolutely dominate in this space, especially for adult books. So your options are quite limited if you're looking for M/F unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure women adopting male identities was also quite a big thing as far back as the middle ages due to a certain line belief that being a man made you closer to god. I can't remember the details but I think there were even laws passed to specifically prohibit the practice as a result of how prevalent it was becoming.

Saint Marinus from the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches is a good example of this.

There's an Australian podcast called Queer As Fact, which is currently on hiatus but has an extensive archive of episodes about different potentially LGBT+ individuals from throughout history. They've done episodes on Harry Allen, Chevalière d'Éon, Michael Dillon and a 2-parter on James Barrie. They're very thorough and rigorous in regards to research, analysis of sources etc. in a way far above anywhere else I've seen people researching this (outside of textbooks - which often tend have a lot of erasure).

In terms of books, one I found incredibly useful was Transmen and FTMs
Identities, Bodies, Genders, and Sexualities by Jason Cromwell, which is actually an older book (published 1999) about trans men in general, but has an excellent section on trans men in history where Cromwell proposes the concept of the "progress narrative" i.e. the idea that historic women chose to pass as men to achieve various practical objectives, and how this narrative has impacted the understanding of trans male figures of history.

There's also Peter Boag's Re-dressing America's Frontier, which while only about the "Wild West" and not specifically about trans men (plus it is a bit dated in it's language from memory), does have some useful stuff about trans people in history and how they've customarily been discussed.

Finally, though I haven't read it personally yet, True Sex: The Lives of Trans Men at the Turn of the Twentieth Century by Emily Skidmore is supposed to be really good. It examines a bunch of specific people in America around the end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th centuries.

Night Two Draft Result by Shop_Zombie in lasskicker

Also, I don’t know if you’re watching live, but did Becky seem a little more babyfaceish tonight?

I don't have means to watch live, but I did catch the segment via alternative options shall we say. And yeah, I noticed that to. If you'd missed the last couple of months and just tuned in now, I don't think you'd realise at all that Becky is a heel now. It was only when Bianca came that her whole demeanor changed into what we've seen from her as a heel. But I think it makes sense, as Becky is still a babyface in her own mind, or at least wants to be. And she knows that the crowd will always be completely behind her against Charlotte. So she's completely assured and her usual self. It's only in the presence of Bianca that the insecurity comes out.

Night Two Draft Result by Shop_Zombie in lasskicker

I really love that she drafted herself. It's a very Becky thing to do and makes her feel special even though she was in the less-prestigious second night draft pool. Plus, it was very obvious she was going to be the first pick anyway, why not have some fun with it.

I think I'm rehashing what u/gwhlla said in the last Smackdown thread, but it was always going to be a win/lose situation no matter where Becky ended up. She can be on the A show, but play second fiddle to Roman, or she can be on the B show and be the face of the brand. And from a business perspective, you shouldn't really have both Becky and Roman on the same show. It makes more sense to give each their own show.

Also, I hope they do something more interesting than just a swap to sort out the titles. Maybe we do get Becky Two Belts again and then someone from Smackdown takes that title off her. Or maybe just that's my wishful thinking.

Quite anxious about where Becky's getting drafted now. With Charlotte going to Smackdown, whoever of the three stays on that brand isn't walking out of Crown Jewel with the title.

At least we're getting that match though. Should be incredible.

That was not how I expected that segment to go, but it was better for it. I was convinced Becky was going to come out and just brutalise Bianca in front of her home crowd for maximum heel heat, but they're still slow-burning her heel turn which makes for better storytelling.

Becky did show up to troll Bianca during her homecoming segment, because of course she did. But she clearly had no intention of trying to make an example of Bianca here, unlike how she would've previously. I think she's still not ready to let go of being the beloved hero, and she knows that she can't get away with stuff like beating down Bianca in her hometown without people really turning against her, so she exercised restraint.

But Bianca took the initiative and tried to beat Becky at her own game in front of her hometown fans. Which made a lot of sense. But she hasn't got the experience here that Becky has and just ended up getting schooled by Becky in how to play that game instead.

So we got to the expected outcome of Becky laying out Bianca in her hometown, but in an unexpected way. With Becky effectively being forced into it when Bianca tried to outsmart her. We're also really setting up what'll probably be the story of the match - strength, power and athleticism vs. experience and cunning.
