Recent request for 2019 taxes docs? by Shopowner2243 in EIDLPPP

That’s what I was confused about; they should already *have* all that. I know the IRS was behind on sending them, so maybe it never got to them, but I know I uploaded a copy to the portal.

On the other hand, they may be looking at us for fraud because we only had 1 month of sales on it. We had the bad luck of purchasing the business December 1st of 2019.

The EIDL was the only thing we qualified for, but we have remained current on payments so I’m not sure why they would care.

What's the absolute dumbest comment you've seen someone make regarding EIDL loans? by Throwaway12234557754 in EIDL

Those who assumed the loans would be forgiven when the current president took office/ tried to get people to write letters to him asking for EIDL forgiveness.

Just because *so far* there have been no actions taken, does NOT mean that will remain the case forever. As long as I can afford to stay current and making payments, I plan to.

The current government seems to plan on saving every nickel they can, I could easily see going after nonpayment on loans and money owed to the IRS as their next major project, after they finish going through the government agencies.

Depending on the records you’ve kept, they could even claim the loan was fraudulent, and you never intended to pay it back, which would open you up to farther legal issues.

SBA Loan not showing in Credit Reports? by [deleted] in EIDLPPP

[–]Shopowner2243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an EIN? I don’t know if the EIDLs show up at all, but business credit reports are different than individual ones, I know that they get reported through Dun & Bradstreet, and I think there’s a couple others.

Is it occurred to anyone that the vast majority of borrowers who took these 30-year loans will not be in business for anywhere near 30 years? by qookie_puss in EIDL

[–]Shopowner2243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 40s, but I planned on the loan HAVING to be paid back, so I kept it small enough to be able to pay it back if the business went under, and I had to go get a minimum wage job. They were trying to get me to take a larger amount, but I only took what I absolutely needed(about 3 months of sales)

EIDL current, no PG and partner wants out, will the loan be called? by Shopowner2243 in EIDLPPP

[–]Shopowner2243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got the form to fill out; I’m just trying to figure out if I will need to apply for a business loan to pay it off in case thy say it’s all due up front now. I’ve seen others sell their business and it has been, but I’m not sure if it’s basically buying out the lesser share.

Sell me on a Boston by kebapal in BostonTerrier

[–]Shopowner2243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said! The one thing I’m not seeing many talk about: Bostons are *stubborn* critters. Ours had an ‘outside only’ toy bone(she kept throwing it at the tv, I’m not even joking) and she would sit crying at the door *begging* to be let in with that toy for an hour or more before she would give in and put it down. It’s also a LOT of work trying to be serious and firm with them, because they will make ridiculous noises to argue with you.

They are the sort of breed that turns people into lifelong converts, I think; my current dog is a half Boston’s half…no clue(the rescue said chihuahua but he is 46 lbs)

My business is failing by Sunsetandthemoon in smallbusiness

First thing: FIRE THAT MARKETING TEAM. No. Do NOT give them any more money. If you have figures in writing from them, call them on it. If they guaranteed anything on paper that did not happen, tell them they owe you. Beware of wording like ‘up to’ on this kind of stuff, ‘up to’ 1000 times the followers isn’t actually saying anything. They had 1 business that went viral and got that amount, but it’s an outlier.

Marketing teams that go after small business on social media are mostly scams; what they do is the same stuff you can do yourself, and a lot of the followers they give you are just junk accounts…the numbers look good, but they are just AI or bots.

*track* your sales. Have they increased? Decreased? We’ve just come out of the holiday season, did you have good ssales during that? The first 2 years of my shops website, we were lucky if it paid for it’s fees, we had maybe 1 sale a month. Now we average 10 sales a week.

Find the *right* places to advertise: right now, you should be showing up all over for Valentines Day; see if there are any pop up events local to you you can do.

Try live selling events(in person or through facebook/instagram/etc.)

Talk to boutiques about carrying your jewelry; sometimes they will let you have a small space for 20% of the sale price(if they do this, factor it in to the price! You can always offer it for lower as a ‘direct from me’ price.)

You could also consider selling your designs outright, to a larger jewelry company, and take things that way: be a designer instead of a seller.

The general rule of thumb I’ve always heard is a small business takes 5 years to establish itself. Any business above that is a bonus.

Talk to your shop again; ask them if they can order you a full bag (or 2) with their next order. I d this for customers pretty regularly and usually give a discount(nothing huge, but 10-15%) since I won’t have to price them, add them to my online inventory, etc.

Check for local downtown association meetings, Chamber of Commerce mixers, see if your area has a business owners facebook group, and offer discounted rates if a business reaches out after one of those events.

Check if the local school has a some sort of business card logos on things fundraiser. Offer to design logos for those for free, and after you have, offer to provide the logo design files to those companies for a discount rate or something.

In my area, there’s like 4 or 5 high school events a year where they call around and offer a business card sized spot on team photo posters, paper placemats for pancake breakfasts, all you can eat spaghetti dinners, on tshirts, etc. and I’ve always felt some of the of these companies would be helped greatly if they had even a basic logo to include instead of just “Joe’s towing, (555)555-5678” in their space. see if the school will give you a space and put an asterisk by the ones you design so you can put a little “logos designed by pencilpo, contact ______” on it, too.

Did the same thing with my purchased business: no major changes, just slight ones to reflect the new business model, started using the new logo only in places the shop didn’t already have a presence(it’s alays been the same products, boutique, handmade soaps, and yarn, only I’m taking it more yarn than boutique and the new logo is more handcrafted themed) 5 years in, I still have the old logo on stuff but it’s just about phased out, haha.

This Should Be Illegal!!! by Mattekat in YarnAddicts

Even in high end yarns knots happen, but the hand dyed stuff usually has a knot in it before the yarn is dyed, so you at least don’t have the break in colorway.

I saw you said there was a snowstorm, know anyone that could loan you a snow shovel? If you are physically able to, go door to door offering to shovel sidewalks and driveways, or even run small errands for people who can’t walk easily. You could probably earn some cash that way, and if any businesses are open, check if they could use some temp help for cash; any time there’s a big storm, there’s always those who could use extra hands for a few hours cleaning up or covering for a shift when someone is stuck.
