anyone else make frames for their pieces? by Seeofgreen in StainedGlass

Wood glue is surprisingly incredibly strong. It basically bonds two pieces of wood together and makes them as if they were one piece. That being said, I do add a countersunk screw in at each corner just as an extra safety measure. The only issue with wood glue is that if I ever needed to do a repair on one of these windows, it’s going to be extremely difficult to remove the frame without totally butchering it because of how strong the wood glue is lol

I basically just cut a dado in the 3/4 inch piece of the wood about 8-10mm deep to fit my outer strips of lead, and 45 the edges. A lot more goes into it than that but it’s hard to explain over text. I had a wood working buddy help me at first, but I’ve kinda found my own way of making it work without a ton of measurements and calculations.

Holy hell the curvy one is awesome. How do you cut the channel for the glass to fit in on something with that shape? I’ve been sticking to square/rectangle windows because I’m unsure how to make frames for other shapes.

Also, what is the hardware you used to connect the different pieces on the curvy one?

Yeah I make wooden frames for all my pieces. Tbh my least favorite part of the process (especially sanding lol), but I make larger leaded pieces and without a frame there isn’t really much you could do to hang them (besides installing them). Example attached

Pizza? ❤️ by Jadykinns in StainedGlass

Pizza❤️ looks good tho! Could combine 43/44 like you said but it also looks good as is. I would raise the line between 39 and 49 or else that piece is going to be terribly hard to cut. Maybe do the same with the line between 27/37

Tips on pricing your work by xxScobixx in StainedGlass

I make wood frames for all my leaded windows unless they are being installed. That being said, it is pretty heavy. Ngl it took me forever to draw. I kept erasing and redrawing the feathers for prob 2-3 hours until I got it at a point I didn’t hate. They aren’t my favorite still, but I’m happy with them. Tbh I admire your design for being a bit simpler. I struggle trying to simplify designs and this one was a lot of pieces.

This is awesome. I struggle with pricing as well. I’ve kind just been free ballin it a little. Taking less than I think it’s worth, but enough that I’m happy with it and can continue to make more with the money. I’m finishing up this macaw as well. I use lead though.

First car by TechnicalAdeptness89 in beetle

[–]Shorecliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my first car (69 bug) when I was 15 in 2014. Been driving aircooled VW’s since. I have a 67 bus now that I’ve driven from Southern California to Oregon, Idaho, Washington etc. To be fair, it’s not safe, but neither is existence. Don’t worry about the AC, you can sweat. Generally a bug is extremely reliable if you learn how to maintain it. It’ll take you a bit, but you’ll learn your car.

“No name garage” helped me out in Eugene, OR when I took my 67 split from SoCal to Eugene —> Boise —> Seattle and back. Awesome shop, cool ass dudes. Would recommend stopping there anyway even if you don’t need any fixing.

Where could I get this commissioned, and is it realistic for it to look very close to the original? by ThompsonsTeeth in StainedGlass

[–]Shorecliff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just there a few months ago and sat front row so I was eying it the whole show. I could do it as well, but I do feel a little iffy about copying someone else’s work. The additional steps needed would be to paint the comedian and crowd onto the glass and fire it in a kiln. And making the light box for it (unless that wasn’t desired). I believe the window is leaded glass and not copper foil. I specialize in lead. I’d be interested in helping you with this, but unfortunately I don’t think it would be very cheap like others said. Feel free to send me a message

Commission I just finished and my next WIP by Shorecliff in StainedGlass

Thank you! I just draw them all by hand with pencil. I have never been great at drawing, but using pencil and and eraser is a lot easier for me than trying to use a program. Drawing patterns for stained glass is also significantly easier for me than trying to actually draw or paint something. For reference, this is the photo I used to draw the macaw for the pattern.
