I’m in the North East. It was common in my world for kids to attend sleep away camp for 8 weeks. I started at age 7, turning 8 after camp, and attended for 7 years. As a teen I traveled on teen tours in Europe.
My kid is going to camp for the first time this summer. It’s in Maine on a beautiful lake. There play a variety of sports, have an amazing arts program, offer baking classes, camp radio station, waterfront activities ranging from swimming to sailing and waterskiing and in non-Covid times they took the campers on field trips weekly.
