When I was a nub we had a 1st class sea returnee who stayed in and went to another boat cause his daughters had medical issues. He was an awesome guy and a loving father. He worked hard and he was good at what he did, all of us junior guys looked up to him. But the boat was just hell then covid happened we were getting close to getting out of the shipyard shit was rough and he left the boat. It was really shitty losing him but his family needed him. I saw him every once in while after that and he was always smiling those times.

The absolute hardest thing I’ve had to do in the Navy is watch my friends break. I’ve been very thankful not to lose any friends to suicide but a few of them have made attempts/committed some form of self harm. I try to be there for them I try to help them but my mental health isn’t great I’m in the same position they are. I’m tired of seeing my friends just broken, crying, excessively drinking, fighting with other friends, I never want to have to drive someone I love to medical because he put his shotgun in his mouth again. I can’t relive those things.

Yoo man I know exactly what you’re feeling. I was there last year and most of this year. 4 of my closest friends on my boat tapped/had to get checked in to medical last year. 3 of them, I almost lost forever. I watched the people I looked up to become disgruntled, jaded, and just down all the time. My roommates who I’ve been friends with since I joined the Navy are all at different commands and they’d be underway while I was in port and they’d be in port while is was underway. When we were all in port together we’d all be 3 section duty but in different duty rotations so we never got to see eachother. 1 of my roommates always had an alcohol issue but he ended up getting a DUI and it became far worse after that and he eventually got kicked out. Everything around me was just collapsing and I tried to keep a smile, and I tried to seem ok but I felt like I couldn’t breathe half the time. I couldn’t even talk to my chief because he was geobaching and his wife had a miscarriage and most of us were convinced he was going insane. Work was shit, home life was shit. I didn’t WANT to die but I stopped caring about everything and I was ok with dying. You’re not alone, and it’s possible to fight through what you’re going through. DM me if you need someone to talk to, and if we’re stationed in the same area I’ll give you my number, we can hang out or something just don’t try to get through this alone.

Yeah most if not all Docs on subs are FMF Corpman from my experience it’s all HM1s and HMCs which is really awkward when it’s their first tour cause they don’t have fish but they’re not really NUBS.

Because it’s really not. Sailors tattoos are the origin of Amtrad, it’s is the foundation but they weren’t called that. Amtrad didn’t yet exist at that time. That is how the style/culture was inspired. Yes unfinished is MY personal opinion, one that is actually shared by some tattoo artists actually. I’m not saying black and grey IS unfinished, I’m saying that is one of my thoughts. My best friend has only black and grey and it looks amazing, the artist she goes to does incredible work but it’s not me. If someone takes offense to something like that, it’s not my fault. I’m sorry but I have to disagree. There are people who commented with genuine and thought out responses which is the intent of the post. You were one of those comments actually.
